Job description

Purpose and Scope

This role will be responsible for the development, validation and implementation of test methods on plant-derived ingredients that will be used in applications from pharmaceuticals to cosmetics. This includes in-process samples, finished product and stability samples ensuring all test methods are complaint with GMP and ISO requirements.

Working closely with the production team as functional ingredients and medicinal products are produced to ensure the appropriate rigor and quality is provided whilst following applicable policies and standard operating procedures.

Job Duties

  • Routine use of HPLC, LC-MS, GC and GC-MS equipment for the testing and quantification of plant and process yields
  • Ensure sample preparations are carried out effectively following written standard operating procedures
  • Research and devise experimental planning for the appropriate analysis of a range of products and to quantify their chemical properties
  • Support colleagues and functions across the business in relation to extraction techniques and proposed product formulations and use
  • Good presentation skills are required to present orally and written reports
  • Responsible for checking stock of consumables and ensure orders are placed as required
  • Able to maintain good laboratory housekeeping whilst working in compliance with regulatory guidelines
  • Ensure all analytical equipment is appropriately maintained, calibrated and records maintained in accordance with GMP
  • Carry out calibration of equipment and maintenance of calibration records

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

  • Bachelors degree or higher in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering. Other STEM subjects may be considered
  • Extensive experience working in a laboratory
  • Familiar in the upkeep of supplier safety data sheets and the safe disposal of chemical samples
  • Previous involvement in R&D and production environments
  • Knowledge of GMP and ISO standards
  • Good level of IT skills
  • Pharmaceutical industry experience is desirable
