Young People Support Worker


Join one of the UK s leading youth homelessness charities as a Young People Support Worker and support young people on their journey to independence and resilience.

Position: Young People Support Worker (Progression Coach internal title)
Salary: £27,136 per annum plus pension and benefits
Location: Stockport, Greater Manchester
Hours: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week (includes evenings and weekends)
Closing Date: Sunday 24th November 2024

About the Role:

As a Young People Support Worker, you ll work in a supported accommodation service to help vulnerable young people develop the skills and confidence to achieve independence. You ll be responsible for creating and implementing support plans, conducting risk assessments, and coordinating activities that build resilience and life skills. In collaboration with local agencies and volunteers, you ll ensure each young person has a tailored support pathway, assisting them with education, employment, training, and personal development. This role involves a rota, including evenings and weekends, to provide essential support when young people need it most.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create and deliver individual support plans for young people
  • Conduct regular assessments and facilitate group activities to build resilience
  • Liaise with external agencies and ensure safeguarding protocols are followed
  • Support young people in accessing education, training, and employment opportunities
  • Work closely with volunteers to enrich the support programme

About You:

You will be passionate about supporting young people and have experience working with those facing homelessness, mental health issues, or who are care leavers. Your understanding of risk assessment, safeguarding, and support planning enables you to create effective, personalised support pathways. You re a proactive, flexible team player, willing to work variable hours to meet the needs of clients.

Key Skills & Experience:

  • Experience working with young people or vulnerable groups
  • Understanding of the challenges faced by young people at risk of homelessness
  • Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and risk assessment
  • Strong communication, organisational, and IT skills
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment
