Job description


Our client, a recognised leader in the land vehicles sector, is seeking a Senior Product Safety Engineer to join their Weapon Systems UK Product Integrity team. This role, available on a contract basis, involves contributing to the safety engineering field, particularly within the realm of land vehicle systems.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Definition and analysis of product safety targets to satisfy customer and legal requirements
  • Setting and monitoring safety guidelines for project/design teams
  • Undertaking safety hazard analysis using tools such as PHI, FMECA, HAZOP, and FTA
  • Generating, updating, and maintaining hazard databases (e.g., eCassandra)
  • Preparing safety documentation, including Product Integrity Management Plan, Safety and Environmental Case Reports, and Hazard Logs
  • Providing technical expertise and general safety advice to project/design teams
  • Scheduling work to meet target timescales and budget demands
  • Liaising with project/design teams, customers, sub-contractors, and suppliers on safety matters


Job Requirements:

  • Significant experience as a Safety Engineer, preferably in the land vehicles or weapons system sector
  • Excellent understanding of safety requirements and familiarity with JSPs and Def Stans
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Word and Excel
  • Excellent report writing skills
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment
  • Highly creative and focussed on achieving objectives with strong analytical skills


Desirable Skills:

  • Engineering background in weapon systems or military design
  • Experience in structural/stress analysis
  • Understanding of EU standards and legislation with the ability to perform gap analysis
  • Knowledge of product security and cyber aspects
  • Awareness of product environmental standards
  • Flexibility and adaptability
  • Strong commitment to achieving high levels of responsibility
  • Readiness to travel if required
