Job description

As a Maintenance Engineer, you will support the Operations team in achieving compliance with the production plan by minimizing engineering downtime, increasing equipment availability, improving performance, and boosting the efficiency of existing assets through continuous improvement techniques. The Maintenance Engineer will also provide timely and effective responses to plant breakdowns and ensure that planned maintenance is completed on schedule, in full compliance with the site's Planned Preventive Maintenance (PPM) requirements.

Key Responsibilities of the Maintenance Engineer:

  • Ensure the site achieves and maintains the required GMP standards.
  • As a Maintenance Engineer, you will provide cover to the production department on a double-day shift pattern, with occasional weekend support.
  • Responsible for the completion of PPM, updating the system, and offering feedback for improvement of the planned maintenance procedures.
  • Address emergency breakdowns, ensuring that all actions are documented in the CMMS (Shire).
  • Overhaul machinery and sub-assemblies, ensuring their optimal function.
  • As part of the role, the Maintenance Engineer will be involved in marking out and manufacturing machine parts as required.
  • Engage in both electrical and mechanical proactive and reactive maintenance activities to the best of your abilities.
  • Ensure proper communication and escalation when further assistance is needed.

Plant and Equipment Efficiency:

The Maintenance Engineer will be responsible for updating plant parameters and set points in line with site Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). It will also be the responsibility of the Maintenance Engineer to ensure that all plant and equipment perform efficiently, producing high-quality products. You will assist other departments with training and general support to ensure the smooth operation of the factory.

Training and Continuous Improvement:

  • The Maintenance Engineer will take an active role in training others as required for both development and regulatory purposes.
  • Identify your own training needs and work with your manager to create a timeline to meet those goals.
  • The Maintenance Engineer will also contribute to and implement continuous improvement initiatives, enhancing quality, safety, efficiency, and waste reduction.
  • Participate in Continuous Improvement teams as necessary to drive ongoing enhancements to plant performance.

Communication and Collaboration:

Daily communication with Team Leaders and Managers is a critical part of the Maintenance Engineer role to ensure that all planned maintenance, engineering tasks, and production priorities are aligned. Additionally, the Maintenance Engineer will liaise with Engineering Stores to guarantee that all necessary spare parts are available for both planned and emergency maintenance.

Shift and Hours:

The Maintenance Engineer role operates on a double-day shift pattern:

  • Monday - Thursday: 6:00 am - 2:00 pm (Early) and 2:00 pm - 10:00 pm (Late).
  • Friday: 6:00 am - 12:00 pm (Early) and 12:00 pm - 6:00 pm (Late).
  • This is a 38-hour work week.

Salary:

  • Hourly Rate: £21.03
  • Weekly Pay: £799.14
  • Annual Salary: £41,555.28
