Job description

Maintenance Manager - Harlow

Objective:

As a Maintenance Manager, your role is to provide leadership on the production floor to build Progressive Maintenance (PM) capabilities, eliminate breakdowns, and offer technical support to achieve operational targets, including safety, quality, and efficiency. I proactively identify and address risks related to safety, food safety, quality, and production losses. Your responsibilities include leading root cause problem-solving, effectively communicating priorities, and managing issues across shifts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership & Culture Development:
    • Lead and support the culture development initiatives, fostering engagement and adherence to company principles.
    • Coach safety standards, tools, and techniques to the team.
    • Identify, evaluate, and mitigate safety risks using behavior-based safety programs and near-miss reporting.
  • Preventative Maintenance & Technical Support:
    • Perform mechanical and electrical preventative maintenance on manufacturing equipment and electrical panels.
    • Complete and proactively manage work orders, ensuring efficient use of downtime.
    • Document preventative maintenance and work orders using SAP Plant Maintenance.
  • Troubleshooting & Repair:
    • Troubleshoot and repair electrical issues (e.g., motor starters, switches, sensors) and mechanical problems (e.g., hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical drive systems).
    • Conduct equipment breakdown analysis to prevent future occurrences.
    • Register parts and update preventative maintenance procedures to enhance the maintenance system.
  • Focused Improvement & Team Development:
    • Participate in and sometimes lead Focused Improvement Teams to eliminate losses within the functional area.
    • Develop and train technicians to enhance their functional and technical skills, including troubleshooting, repair, and Autonomous Maintenance activities.
  • Spare Parts & Equipment Management:
    • Support and suggest improvements for the spares storeroom process.
    • Provide technical support to eliminate top losses and improve equipment ownership within the team.
    • Ensure equipment is set up and changed over efficiently to meet production demands.
  • Operational Focus:
    • Spend 90% of time on the production floor, working closely with technicians to deliver results.
    • Flow to work as needed to meet business needs, ensuring smooth and efficient operations.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Mastery of Manufacturing Reliability Fundamentals, including Integrated Work Systems (IWS).
  • Expertise in Clean, Inspect, Lubricate (CIL) processes and Defect Management.
  • Proficient in mechanical and electrical troubleshooting and repair.
  • Strong leadership and team development capabilities.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Hands-on experience with fabrication, welding, and machinist tasks.
  • Proficient in SAP Plant Maintenance and other maintenance management tools.
