The Job Opportunity

Reporting directly to the Director - Commercial Accounting, due to continued business growth we are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant on a permanent basis to join our small team of finance professionals. Although you will be based in London, you will also have day to day interaction with our European Commercial management team and global commercial stakeholders.

As a member of the team, you will be responsible for managing month end accounting closing activities and the preparation and submission of the UK Statutory accounts. In addition, you will provide day to day support and guidance to the Finance Analysts, and actively seek out opportunities for process improvements. The ideal candidate will have experience gained from working within a Trading or Energy environment, although this is not essential.

Main Duties and Responsibilities of the Role

Key Activities

  • Manage month-end accounting closing activities
    • Review and approve accounting journals
    • Review income tax entries
    • Prepare GAAP income statement and balance sheet review packs
    • Prepare derivative variance analysis
  • Review and approve monthly cashflow for Gas settlements
  • Prepare accounting assessments for new trading activity
  • Prepare quarterly and year-end financial disclosures and questionnaires
  • Review and sign off balance sheet reconciliations
  • Review and approve daily exchange broker reconciliations
  • Prepare and submit UK statutory accounts
  • Responsible for reviewing and updating SOX controls documentation for Europe Commercial
  • Act as key contact for internal and external auditors
  • Ad-Hoc project work


Competency Requirements

  • Degree educated, preferable an Accounting / Business/ Economics degree
  • CIMA / ACCA / ACA qualified or equivalent - minimum 3 years post qualified experience
  • Experience in preparing or reviewing UK statutory accounts (FRS102 preferable)
  • Proficiency in utilising MS Excel and other Office 365 software
  • Numeric and analytical skills
  • Initiative-taking
  • Interpersonal skills to work and communicate well with other members of the Finance Team and across Commercial group at various levels
