Job Description:

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated SEN Assistant to join this team 5 days a week, term time only. The successful candidate will work closely with children who have autism and high sensory needs, and who may display challenging behaviors. You will play a vital role in helping them achieve their personal goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one and small group support to children with autism and high sensory needs.
  • Create and maintain a structured and predictable learning environment.
  • Employ strategies to manage and de-escalate challenging behaviors.
  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and parents to ensure consistent support for the students.
  • Facilitate sensory activities that help children manage their sensory needs.
  • Monitor and record students progress and behavior, providing feedback to the SENCO and other relevant staff.
  • Support students with personal care tasks if required.

Requirements:

  • A Child & Adult Workforce DBS
  • Previous experience working with children with autism and high sensory needs is highly desirable.
  • Understanding of autism spectrum disorders and associated sensory processing issues.
  • Ability to stay calm and patient in challenging situations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A proactive and positive attitude towards helping children achieve their best.
  • Relevant qualifications or training in special educational needs (e.g., CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools, or equivalent) is advantageous.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
