We are looking for a Funding Policies Adviser to join our team.

Where in Wellcome will I be working?

The role is part of the Funding Policies Team reporting to Funding Policies Manager. The team sits within the broader Funding Operations & Governance section within the Research Funding department.

What will I be doing?

In this varied role, you will be working as part of a team to develop and implement new and existing funding policies and grant conditions. This includes researching background information and working with a range of stakeholders on a broad range of topics such as research involving human participants, Continual Professional Development and the risk of research misuse. You'll provide advice on all Wellcome's funding policies and grant conditions, to staff involved in supporting applicants and grant holders. You will be accountable for managing governance matters including Committee Terms of Reference and providing an annual report on the demographic makeup of funding advisory committees. You will be a coordinating Wellcome's response to allegations of research misconduct made against Wellcome-funded individuals and organisations, ensuring that our policies are being followed.

As a Funding Policy Adviser, you will:

  • Input into management of current funding policies and the development and implementation of new funding policies.

  • Manage governance matters, including committee terms of reference, conflict of interest policy in relation to committee members, and coordination of research misconduct cases.

  • Produce reports as required and support the management of key funding policy areas such as open access, award conditions and research misconduct.

  • Liaise and coordinate key stakeholders to enable implementation of funding policies, grant conditions and associated processes.

  • Occasionally deliver training to internal staff on funding-related policies and maintain information resources and policies documentation on the internal website.

  • Contribute to a diverse and inclusive culture across the organisation, collaborating across departments.
