Head of Finance

Location: London

Jewish Blind and Disabled (JBD) is a charity which transforms the lives of Jewish adults who have a physical disability and/or vision impairment through independent living and support. This is provided through specially adapted mobility apartments located in one of 7 unique, supportive developments or within their own home.

Cedar is supporting Jewish Blind and Disabled in their recruitment for a Head of Finance. This is an exciting opportunity to join the organisation and lead the finance team through a period of growth with new projects and developments.

The JBD workforce of 60, is a diverse team of individuals from all faiths and none. What often attracts them to the charity is its strong values that shape the way they work. JBD were recently awarded Charity Employer of the Year at the 2024 Work Avenue Awards with judges commending the high levels of staff satisfaction and retention.

Responsibilities include:

  • Financial management of Jewish Blind & Disabled & JBD Properties Ltd (the company established to undertake our property development)
  • Oversee the provision of clear, accurate and timely management information, reporting financial performance to the Chief Executive, Finance Committee and Board of Trustees
  • Day to day, accounting and financial management of the charity supported by the Finance Assistant
  • Ensure that financial statutory returns are submitted to appropriate agencies in a timely manner
  • Develop and maintain business and financial planning processes, including annual budgets and forecasts
  • Support budget holders in managing their budgets and developing their financial knowledge
  • Manage the annual audit process, liaising with external auditors
  • Provide support to the fundraising team in completing funding applications
  • Establish and maintain a robust internal financial control framework
  • Management and support of the Finance Assistant

Essential experience

  • CCAB qualified or qualified by experience
  • Proven track record in a senior finance leadership role including management and development of staff
  • Excellent system skills including Advance Excel and ability to provide financial modelling
  • Knowledge of SORP
  • Familiarity with the Charity / Not-For-Profit sector

Benefits

Basic Salary circa 60,000 per annum

  • Holiday entitlement is 20 days annual leave + 8 days bank holidays + Jewish High Holy days (up to 8 depending on year)
  • Hybrid role with ability to work up to 2 days from home
  • Opportunity for the role to be a part time flexible post, with a minimum requirement of 25-28 hours per week depending on qualifications / experience

The ideal candidate will be a collaborative team player with a positive attitude and strong self-motivation. You will have extensive knowledge of accounting principles and charity accounting with at least five years of practical accounting experience. Your ability to work efficiently and accurately with figures will be essential, as will your empathy and skill in identifying, investigating, and resolving discrepancies. A proactive and flexible approach to work is essential, and the ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.
