Portsmouth

Salary up to 70,000 + Car Allowance 5000 + 25 Days Holiday + Pension

Blaymires Recruitment is working with a respected building contractor based near Portsmouth who is searching for a motivated Estimator to join the business.

The company has been operating for over 12 years and have established themselves as a refurbishment and new build specialist offering market-leading construction solutions within the industrial & commercial sectors.

They require an Estimator to join their Commercial team who has refurbishment or new build experience. If you have experience in estimating in construction and are looking to move your career forward with a progressive contractor, this role could be a perfect fit for you.

The Role of the Estimator:

The Construction Estimator will be responsible for accurately assessing project costs, preparing bids, and ensuring projects are delivered within budget. This role requires a strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and industry standards.

You will be based at the offices near Portsmouth with regular visits to sites, therefore a driving license would be a must.

Responsibilities of the Estimator

  • Review project plans, specifications, and requirements to determine project scope and objectives.
  • Conduct material take-offs and quantify labour, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
  • Analyse project documents and identify potential risks, opportunities, and value engineering options.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers to gather necessary information for accurate estimates.
  • Obtain and evaluate quotes from subcontractors and suppliers to ensure competitiveness and accuracy.
  • Prepare detailed bid proposals, including cost breakdowns, schedules, and other supporting documentation.
  • Participate in bid review meetings and present estimates to senior management for approval.
  • Monitor project costs and provide ongoing support to project teams to ensure adherence to budgetary constraints.
  • Maintain accurate records of estimates, bids, and project-related correspondence.

Requirements of the Estimator

  • Degree in construction management, engineering, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • Proven experience as a construction estimator, preferably in commercial construction.
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, building codes, and industry standards.
  • Proficiency in estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent analytical and mathematical skills with attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Time management and organisational skills to prioritise workload and meet deadlines.
