Job description

Head of Cloud Operations - UK Based Hertfordshire/Nottinghamshire - £70-90K DOE - Hybrid/Remote

Seeking a Head of Cloud Operations to lead a team of cloud engineers in creating and supporting an integrated suite of operational tools. These tools will effectively manage the capacity, performance, and availability of production services across diverse cloud environments.

The Role

Reporting to the CTO, the Head of Cloud Ops is charged with designing, deploying & supporting cloud infrastructure services. The ideal candidate must have an "emotional quotient" commensurate with the requirement to effectively manage tremendous change at all levels of the organisation and built trust in the team.

Technical responsibilities of this position involve designing, building, and deploying an integrated suite of operational tools to manage the capacity, performance, availability, and cost of our production services. Accountable for developing processes & toolsets needed to support the audit/compliance needs of applications and will work to provide Tier 3 technical support.

Must Haves:

  • Ability to be an active and trusted collaborator guiding more junior team members.
  • Expertise in cloud technologies (AWS).
  • Manage enterprise systems environments, including installing packages and automating systems functions.
  • Skills and experience with source code control systems such as Git, SVN, etc.
  • Skills with Python Scripting, Unix Shell and Powershell.
  • Strong understanding of Windows, Linux, and IP Networking, including routing, DNS, Firewalls & load balancers.
  • Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes & container orchestration.
  • Ability to think horizontally and work collaboratively to solve problems & design and implement robust solutions.
  • Ability and willingness to openly and transparently communicate ideas.
  • Strong independent and collaborative problem-solving skills: example areas include the ability to research and select appropriate technologies and approaches for inclusion in the environment in a timely fashion, and the ability to rapidly understand a package, deploy it, and test it.
