As a Process Engineering Lead the main purpose of the role is to design, develop and improve pyrometallurgical, hydrometallurgical and evaluation processes. It will be necessary to independently identify improvement opportunities within the business and then act to build strategic relationships across multidisciplinary business units (including customers) to address these actions and achieve the strategic goals of the business. The work will involve monitoring and analysis of processes and data in conjunction with laboratory, pilot and plant scale development and commissioning trials for our operations at Brimsdown. Additionally, the role will include a number of activities through design, develop and commission where applicable. The work will involve close working with a Page 2/6variety of other departments mainly Capital projects, operations, and the wider technical groups. The incumbent will take direct responsibility for the delivery of mid-sized research and development projects to generate new processes and technical understanding of the smelting and refining processes that actively translate into commercial value. They will also have the responsibility of leading a small team of Process Engineers and/or chemists.
Your responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates leadership in EHS and contributes to all required aspects of safety reviews within the Refining Business
  • Promotes initiative, innovation, and creativity to deliver business objectives and encourages others to look for opportunities to innovate.
  • Responsible for key technical work required for business development and improvement.
  • Generate and review project documents generated by internal JM personnel.
  • Guide commissioning work on new and existing plant.
  • Promotes high environmental, health and safety standards and behaviours for yourself and your co-workers.
  • Develop and improve pyrometallurgical, hydrometallurgical, thermal and concentration processes in conjunction with production, customers, external technology suppliers, JMTC and other members of the technical team.
  • Deliver and analyse operational processes and data, supporting resolution of issues.
  • Planning & carrying out investigations and trials at lab, pilot, and plant scale to provide scale-up information for the design of new refining processes or improvements to current installations.
  • Provide process expertise to enable HAZOP studies to be carried out on new process plants and Process Hazard Reviews on existing operations.

Requirements for the role:
  • A master's degree in chemical engineering (or similar) based subject. - Essential.
  • A PhD or 10 years demonstrated technical expertise in a specialized field - Essential.
  • Substantial experience within process development or relevant operations - Essential.
  • Full understanding of heat and mass balances, P&IDs and PFDs and other process docs - Essential.
  • Understanding of Statistical Process Control and statistical analysis - Desirable.
  • Full understanding of hazard studies - Essential.
