Principal Ecologist / Team Lead

Location: Manchester

Salary / Benefits: 45,000 - 55,000+ (negotiable depending on experience) plus a comprehensive package

Join an award-winning, multi-disciplinary environmental consultancy based in the vibrant city of Manchester. We are seeking dynamic Principal Ecologists to strengthen our diverse team.

Our client is a consultancy that boasts a captivating portfolio of projects encompassing major highways, the public realm, education, healthcare, green infrastructure, renewable energy, rural land management, wildlife conservation, and private sector development ventures in and around Manchester and Greater Manchester and the North West. We take pride in our commitment to both public and private sector environmental sustainability.

Typical surveys include those for bats, dormouse, amphibians, reptiles, invertebrates, and botanical surveys amongst others, all around Manchester and surrounding areas. They are involved in Preliminary Ecological Appraisals, Ecological Impact Assessments, biodiversity reports, and lots more.

Key Qualifications and Experience

We are looking for candidates with the following qualifications and experience:

  • A degree in a relevant environmental subject
  • Membership in a relevant professional body (CIEEM)
  • Chartered status is ideal but not required
  • Possession of relevant licenses, especially GCN and/or bat license (desired)
  • ECI Contract experience on infrastructure projects (advantageous)
  • Proficiency in standardized habitat survey methodologies (Phase 1, NVC, etc.)
  • Strong knowledge of UK-protected and invasive species
  • Familiarity with key environmental/ecological legislation
  • Expertise in faunal survey methodologies
  • Experience with Biodiversity Action Planning
  • Knowledge of habitat creation techniques
  • Ability to develop Ecological Management Plans
  • Solid grasp of habitat management theory and practice
