Job description

Merseyside Recycling and Waste Authority

Director of Finance

Salary £90,096 to £94,339

As the statutory waste disposal authority for Merseyside, we are committed to delivering great services to our partner authorities and residents, reducing the impact of our actions on climate change, and improving the sustainable management of waste and resources within our region. Working across the six local authorities comprising Liverpool City Region, we are responsible for the recycling, treatment and disposal of municipal waste. We are positive about leading change to reach our ambitions of net-zero carbon and zero-waste by 2040. Collaborating with partners, our Climate Action Plan focuses on three key areas - people, planet and economy, linking behavioural change, resource consumption, biodiversity and the circular economy.

We are seeking a new Director of Finance who will lead financial operations and planning, supporting and empowering the organisation to deliver the ambitions that we have for a greener and more sustainable future. With an evolving landscape of waste and recycling regulation, we are well placed to maximise the opportunities that these changes present, ensuring our continued financial sustainability and performance through the delivery of our Medium Term Financial Strategy (MTFS). We have an ambitious capital programme, and you will support the authority through the tendering and negotiation of significant procurement and contract processes. We are a dynamic team who work collegiately to deliver great services for communities in the most efficient way.

You will bring a solid foundation in local government finance, and an understanding of relevant regulation and legislative financial responsibilities. Working well in partnership will be crucial in a forward-thinking organisation, and the successful candidate will bring experience of governance and compliance, able to support colleagues to make good decisions in a financially prudent and robust way. This is a great opportunity for professional growth, contributing to achieving a greener future.
