ABOUT SCI

The Society of Chemical Industry (SCI), a registered charity, is an international forum where science meets business. Established in 1881 SCI's main charitable objective is to advance the application of science into industry for public benefit, which it fulfils via events, publications and other activities. Today, with members in over 70 countries and with over 900 companies and 300 academic institutions represented in our network, SCI facilitates open innovation, identifies and promotes emerging technologies in the areas of climate change and global health, and provides support for the next generation of scientists and engineers.

OUR JOURNALS

SCI is a not-for-profit publisher, delivering its charitable objective to accelerate scientific research through the promotion, curation and publishing of cutting-edge science through its portfolio of curated, peer reviewed journals.

SCI established its first journal, The Society of Chemical Industry , in 1882. Since then, the Society has launched a further seven peer-to-peer journals and is the global leader in journals focused on the translation of chemistry and related science into industry, for the benefit of society.

THE ROLE

Reporting to the Director of Publishing, the Publisher will be responsible for the performance of a group of journals withing our portfolio, including The Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, JSFA Reports, and The Journal of Chemical Technology and Biotechnology. Key responsibilities include:

  • Growing titles by producing and implementing journal development plans, developing editorial boards, expanding the titles reach into fast growing research areas and geographies. Continuing the titles' transition to Open Access.
  • Proposing and evaluating ways in which the portfolio can be extended through new title launches.
  • Working with colleagues to ensure that development plans and initiatives are effectively marketing and communicated. Managing the relationship with our publishing partner Wiley.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • 5 year of managing multiple STM journals.
  • Clear evidence of delivering of journal growth, formulation of journal development plans, use of a broad range of tactics deployed and delivery of results.
  • Experience of significantly increasing the proportion of Open Access papers in a Hybrid Journal and/or of managing wholly Open Access journals.
  • Experience of managing a transfer network between journals is desirable.
  • Degree in life sciences, chemistry or related discipline.

We operate a hybrid working pattern of 3 days in our office in Belgravia, central London, and 2 from home.
