Project Accountant Job - ACCA/CIMA

The role purpose
The Project Accountant will be responsible for monitoring the progress of projects from inception through to BAU, understanding key variances and working closely with the business on improving the financial performance across all projects.
Key Responsibilities
Joining the finance team, you will be responsible for:

  • Preparing a monthly dashboard which monitors financial performance across projects, together with insightful commentary which explains key variances
  • Responsible for maintaining the project budget/model, updating it as necessary and procuring approvals where necessary. Producing key outputs which includes Project P&L, Balance Sheet and cashflows (vs. budget) on a monthly basis.
  • Preparing insightful analysis and reports to key client and stakeholders in a summarised format to aid key decision-making; attend meetings and prepare client reports as required.
  • Working closely with the Delivery team (incl. Project Managers) on a day-to-day basis to understand and report on all activities impacting revenue and costs in relation to specific projects.
  • Working with the sales team to understand the commercial aspects of new bids in the pipeline, and providing inputs gathered from existing and completed projects.
  • Reviewing the legal and contractual documentation to synthesise key commercial details required to set-up and monitor new projects.
  • Leading on all aspects of project reporting ensuring time, costs, expenses are tracked correctly and reported against budgets
  • Analysing all costs and expenses, ensuring projects related expenditure is adequately captured and recorded, and invoice appropriately.
  • Supporting the effective running of finance systems, and ensuring automation opportunities are maximised for project accounting and reporting
  • Supporting the finance team during peak periods, and leading business/finance projects and other adhoc activities.

  • Your experience
  • Project accounting experience, which includes working on 6-12+ installation projects based on milestones.
  • Extensive experience of managing projects which include a combination of internal and external labour, IT hardware and software, and other project-related expenditures
  • Experience of analysing commercial contracts and extracting key financial and commercial information
  • Extensive business partnering experience with both financial and non-financial teams
  • An excellent understanding of accounting and financial control (incl. month-end activities)
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Experience of using Access Financials
  • Experience in the IT/Telco sector
  • Experience of working in a PE-backed business
  • Experience of working in SME sized organisations

  • Essential:
  • Qualified Accountant (ACA, CIMA, ACCA)
  • Permission to work in the UK
