We have a fantastic opportunity at HMP Five Wells to join the Novus education team as our SENCo on a permanent, full-time basis, working 37 hours a week.

Job description

We are looking to recruit a Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator to join our education team at HMP Five Wells. You will be reporting to the Education Manager, ensuring that the special educational needs of our learners are identified and assessed. Using data to inform the delivery of and access appropriate programmes and provide support/training for a range of staff. Day to day planning and management of Learning Support Practitioners and teach as required, with a flexible approach to delivering across curriculum areas as needed.

You will need patience, passion and understanding in your approach which will in turn help our learners to secure future employment opportunities post-release. We always try to cater to a learner's individual needs and ensure we create a positive learner experience.

The Prison security team are always on hand to ensure the lessons run safely and smoothly. Time is available during the day to plan the lessons and your Local Education Manager is always on hand to provide support as and when needed.

Due to the nature of the establishment, all aspects of the role are carried out onsite - no more spending your evenings and weekends planning!

To be successful in the role, you will need:

  • A teaching qualification OR subject specialist qualification at Level 4 (Level 5 - new standards) with a commitment to obtain the relevant outstanding Level 4 (Level 5 - new standards) qualification within a specified time scale (required)
  • Hold an SEN qualification at Level 4 or above.
  • Hold at least a Level 2 (equivalent to GCSE A-C) qualification in Literacy and Numeracy
  • Gain/hold and maintain a clean, enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
  • Have a history of working effectively with people presenting challenging behaviour.
