The role

As a Business tutor at HMP Thameside, you will play a crucial role in helping our learners develop their business acumen and gain further skills in how to successfully set up and run a business. You will be responsible for delivering engaging and effective lessons, tailoring your teaching to meet the needs of each individual learner. The business curriculum area sits in a small team led by an experienced Hub Manager to support you with your continuous professional development. The business team fits within the wider department of four Hub Managers, Administration Manager, Local Education Manager and approximately 30 staff.

This is a full-time role, 37 hours per week over 4.5 days. Monday - Thursday 8 to 5 with a 1pm finish on a Friday. Out of this, you will be working with a maximum of 12 learners at any time for 23 to 26 hours. The remaining 11 to 14 hours include administration/preparation time. All planning and marking are done on site within the working hours and there is not a requirement to complete any additional extra-curricular activities apart from within your working day.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver high-quality lessons in how to run your own business.
  • Create a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages student engagement and participation.
  • Assess learner needs and develop individualized learning plans.
  • Monitor learner progress and provide constructive feedback.
  • Support learners in achieving their SFEDI (Small Firms Enterprise Development Initiative) qualifications.
  • Teaching the SFEDI business course.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to ensure the best possible outcomes for all learners.
  • Stay up to date with curriculum changes and best practices in education.

The person

  • A teaching qualification OR subject specialist qualification at Level 4 (Level 5 - new standards) with a commitment to obtain the relevant outstanding Level 4 (Level 5 - new standards) qualification within a specified time scale (required).

However, the right candidate with appropriate experience might be considered if they are committed to completing their teaching qualification within the first year of employment.

  • Hold at least a Level 2 qualification in Literacy and Numeracy
  • Track record of effective teaching in subject specialism
  • Gain/hold and maintain a clean, enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
