Development Director

We are seeking a Development Director to lead fundraising and partnerships for a UK-based children's charity.

Position: Development Director

Location: Remote, with occasional travel

Salary: £70k per annum

Contract: Full time, Permanent

The Role:

As Development Director, you will be responsible for the charity's external operations, including fundraising, building relationships with donors, and ensuring that families across the UK have equal access to support. You will report to the Chair of the Board of Trustees and collaborate closely with the Finance Director, who handles internal operations.

This role requires a hands-on approach, as the Development Director will also support internal leadership functions, helping to manage and train junior staff, and representing the charity in relationships with funders, corporate partners, and other stakeholders in the palliative care sector.

About you:

With a proven experience managing a charity, you will be a driven and compassionate leader with a passion for fundraising and a dedication to helping children and families.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the charity's fundraising activities
  • Maintain and grow relationships with key donors and funders
  • Ensure children and families nationwide have equitable access to services
  • Work with hospices, care providers, and palliative care commissioners
  • Foster partnerships within the wider charity sector and corporate community
  • Work closely with the Finance Director on internal matters such as HR and financial compliance
  • Support the training and supervision of junior staff

You will also have:

  • Proven experience at a managerial level within a charity
  • Strong track record in fundraising and relationship management
  • Understanding of the health sector, particularly around the challenges faced by children with life-limiting conditions
  • Familiarity with palliative and end-of-life care and the organisations operating in that space
  • Understanding of charity financial management and regulatory requirements
