Milk Education are seeking a compassionate and experienced SEND Learning Support Assistant to work in a fantastic SEND school in Gateshead on a long term-supply basis. In this role, you will provide essential support to students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), helping them to overcome challenges and achieve their full potential in an inclusive and supportive educational environment. SEND Learning Support Assistant Key Responsibilities: Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with ASD, both in and out of the classroom. Assist in the development and implementation of Individualised Education Plans (IEPs) tailored to each student's unique needs. Use structured teaching methods, visual aids, and other autism-specific strategies to enhance student learning and engagement. Foster a positive and supportive learning environment that encourages independence, social interaction, and emotional well-being. Monitor student progress and provide regular feedback to teachers, SENCOs, and parents. Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other professionals to ensure a consistent and effective approach to each student's development. Support students in developing social skills, managing sensory sensitivities, and navigating daily school routines. Assist with personal care and mobility needs as required, ensuring the dignity and well-being of each student. Participate in staff training and professional development opportunities to stay up-to-date with best practices in autism education. Maintain accurate records of student progress and support activities. SEND Learning Support Assistant Non-Negotiables: Previous experience working with children or young people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in a school or similar setting. A strong understanding of autism-specific teaching strategies and approaches. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents. Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting the development and well-being of students with autism. Ability to work effectively as part of a team and adapt to the changing needs of students and the school. A commitment to promoting inclusion and ensuring all students have equal access to education.
