Our Chemicals Regulation Division (CRD) is responsible for the regulation of biocides, pesticides, detergents and chemicals covered by REACH and compliance with the Classification, Labelling and Packaging Regulation.

We are now looking for three Senior Regulatory Toxicologists to join us on a full-time, permanent basis, working 37 hours per week. Part-time applicants who can commit to a minimum of 30 hours per week across four to five days will also be considered.

The Role

As a Senior Regulatory Toxicologist, you will assess the human health hazards and risks of a variety of chemicals, including pesticides, biocides and general chemicals regulated under UK REACH.

You will independently evaluate data from various studies, communicate your assessments and provide expert advice on a range of toxicological issues. Ensuring the safe and sustainable use of chemicals, you will contribute towards our regulatory schemes for the future.

Additionally, there will be opportunities for you to lead national and global activities to ensure we keep pace with new and emerging issues in regulatory toxicology.

Your role will also involve:

  • Mentoring less experienced members of the team
  • Providing peer reviews of work and leading on specific technical aspects
  • Supporting decisions concerning the hazard and risk assessment of chemicals
  • Monitoring and reporting on the progress and delivery of projects

About You

To be considered as a Senior Regulatory Toxicologist, you will need:

  • Extensive experience of undertaking human-health hazard and risk assessment of chemicals, including the evaluation of complex, contradictory and/or incomplete datasets, including the collation and evaluation of data on a range of toxicological effects from various sources, including standard and non-standard animal studies, in vitro studies, mechanistic and literature information to conclude on the toxicological properties of chemicals
  • Technical credibility and experience of leading teams and/or projects, developing your own and others' toxicology knowledge and applying this to assessments
  • Experience of building and maintaining strong, positive working relationships both internally and externally
  • Experience of performing representational roles in relation to toxicology
  • Comprehensive analytical skills
  • Initiative and decisiveness, supporting your ability to make effective decisions

You will also need, at a minimum, a 2:2 degree or level 7 qualification in a relevant science subject such as:

  • Biochemistry
  • Biological Sciences
  • Biomedical Sciences
  • Chemistry
  • Pharmacology
  • Pharmacy
  • Toxicology
