Job description

We are seeking to recruit an experienced Targeted Lung Health Check (TLHC) Specialist Nurse Consultant to join the team to develop of a high-quality TLHC service. This role will be fundamentally to develop the nursing/clinical components for the TLHC programme.

Once the service has been fully commissioned, there may be an opportunity to continue with the role through the operational delivery of the new service. This will involve the development of policies and procedures, staff training programmes and competency frameworks and staff recruitment.

NHS England is rolling out a national TLHC programme throughout the UK in areas identified with high disease prevalence, where significant impact can be made from the recognition of early-stage lung cancer to improve early diagnosis and survival rates. The TLHC programme targets those most at risk of lung cancer of developing lung cancer, people aged 55 to 74 years-old who have ever smoked.

Key areas of responsibility will include:

  • Development of policies and procedures for the nursing aspect of end-to-end TLHC programme
  • Develop staff training programmes and competency frameworks for the future recruitment of Thoracic nursing staff
  • Assist in the commissioning of the Patients Administration System
  • Advise and assist in recruitment for Thoracic nurses
  • Reviewing IR(ME)ER training programme for thoracic nurses for the requesting of low dose CT scans for patients considered to be assessed as elevated risk
  • Review ARTP training courses for the delivery of spirometry on the mobile units.
  • Review training programmes for thoracic nurses for smoking cessation advice for patients.
  • Support tender submissions for TLHC programmes

The ideal candidate will have:
  • Current registration with the NMC, with relevant post registration qualification in
  • Thoracic, Cancer Care etc.
  • Experience within commissioning of a new service working from a clinical perspective to ensure correct policies and procedures and implement.
  • Worked in a senior role responsible for the recruitment of specialist nursing teams.
