32,257 to 34,192 per annum

Job Purpose

This is an exciting opportunity for an individual to fill a permanent role in our Process Development team focussed on high profile scientific development work aiming to improve our process and reduce our cost base. A primarily laboratory-based role, carrying out both routine and ad hoc analysis to support process development projects. With materials ranging from muddy beet to technical sugar solutions, this role offers an interesting scope within a full-scale sugar manufacturing environment. You will take a leading role in the laboratory and work organisation and be a key team member providing capability retention through a dynamic team environment.

Core Accountabilities

  • Safe collection of manufacturing samples from the factory.
  • Routine and ad hoc analysis on sugar beet and process samples.
  • Assist in method development and work optimisation.
  • Accurate and organised recording of results.
  • Take a leading role in lab management maintaining a safe, clean and organised work environment, maintain stocks and ordering of consumables, preparation of stock chemicals.
  • Engage and cooperate with other team members to deliver on a dynamic work schedule.
  • Training of temporary analysts.
  • Travel to other sites will sometimes be required.

Skills, Knowledge and Competencies

  • Science qualifications at degree level or equivalent experience
  • Chemistry at A-Level or equivalent
  • Prior laboratory experience including method development and experimental design
  • Lab management
  • Good timekeeping and communication skills.
  • Full driving licence.
  • Basic IT skills.
  • Ability to carry out basic calculations accurately.
  • Organised, responsible and reliable with personal drive and motivation.
  • Strong safety awareness.
  • Positive and flexible attitude, taking a pride in your work and environment.
  • A solutions-based mindset and creative thinking together with the observational presence to raise emerging issues or unusual results in the context of the overall project goals.
