Job description

Being a Visitor Experience Officer for the National Trust is all about people - connecting with them, inspiring them, and making sure they have the best possible day when they come to visit.

You'll be a member of the Surrey Landscapes Visitor Experience team and will be based at Claremont, near Esher, Surrey. Claremont is open 363 days a year, daily from 10am - 5pm during the summer months, 4pm during the winter months. The role will be predominantly based at Claremont but may very occasionally work cross portfolio supporting the team at Winkworth and Runnymede. This is a full time, 5 day a week post , which involves working weekends and bank holidays on a rota basis and as required to cover events at the property.

The advertised salary is inclusive of the Outer London Weighting allowance of £3315 per annum.

What it's like to work here

You'll be reporting to Property Operations Manager, working with the Welcome Team, at Claremont.

Steeped in nearly 300 years of history, this eighteenth-century garden is a green oasis in the heart of Surrey within easy reach of London. Previously the countryside retreat of queens and heirs, Claremont has always been somewhere to escape everyday life and enjoy simple outdoor pleasures.

What you'll be doing

As Visitor Experience Officer, your main focus will be on providing a great service for visitors. With your team, you'll be welcoming people and inspiring them to really get to know Claremont. This might include devising and running events and activities, and creating interpretive displays and other ways of bringing the place, and its stories, to life for everyone who comes here. You'll encourage visitors to take a closer look at artworks or precious objects cared for by the Trust.

You'll be supervising and supporting volunteers and organising rotas. You're likely to be checking standards of presentation on site, or helping to write for our web pages.

Who we're looking for

We'd love to hear from you if you're:

  • used to multiple deadlines and managing your own workload

  • good at talking to, and getting on with, all kinds of people
  • a hard-working and committed team player
  • comfortable with IT: Microsoft Office, as well as web and social media
  • experienced in producing interpretive materials, such as displays and exhibitions, and marketing or promotional materials
  • familiar with health and safety procedures
