Job description

Vehicle Development Machinist Technician

Purpose of the Role:
Facilitate and support Vehicle Development manufacture, build and test requirements, and product development, prototype and research requests for machined produced parts.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Responsible for executing to a high standard machining work, requested by the Vehicle Development workshop teams.
  • Working closely with members of the Vehicle Development build team to build high-quality, reliable prototype vehicles, bucks and rigs for effective test and development of new vehicle technologies.
  • Co-ordinate simultaneous work requests in an effective and intelligent manner, managing conflicting priorities to tight deadlines.
  • Responsibility for machining plant and equipment care and maintenance.
  • Open to working additional hours including weekends when required beyond the stated core hours to maintain work request deadlines and project schedules.
  • Compliance with the company Health and Safety policies at all times.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required:

  • Extensive machining experience of one off, and small batch parts using both CNC and manual Mill, and Lathe.
  • Preferred knowledge of motor vehicle architecture and operation.
  • Preferred experience of working with the up to date metallic and composite materials used in the high-performance vehicle and, or aerospace industries.
  • Good degree of computer literacy, including the use of CATIA CAD for drawing viewing.
  • Ability to interpret 2D engineering specifications and drawings.
  • Ability to self-check and inspect completed machined parts.
  • Engineering based Apprenticeship training giving a competency in general engineering workshop skills.
