Housing Advisor - HomelessnessWarwickshire6-month contract (40% Hybrid)£22-£26/hr
Working with the Homelessness Reduction service, our client is seeking an experienced Housing Officer/Advisor for an initial 6-month contract.
You will be reporting to the Homelessness Reduction Manager and your main objectives will be to deliver with colleagues the Council's responsibilities under the homelessness legislation, including the prevention of and relieving homelessness. You will work closely with households facing difficulties securing or maintaining their accommodation to ensure that they are empowered, encouraged, and enabled to identify housing solutions that will adequately address their difficulties and improve their wider health and wellbeing.
You must work positively to prevent homelessness and reduce harm at an early stage by providing information, advice, and assistance to customers across all housing tenures. You will be responsible for ensuring that all homeless or potentially homeless persons are dealt with according to statute, Code of Guidance, and council policy and to arrange temporary accommodation or make referrals for support, if appropriate.
Duties will include

  • Complete assessments for customers who are homelessness or threatened with homelessness and undertake detailed enquires into their circumstances to establish the nature and extent of the organisations organisation's duties towards them under the homelessness legislation.
  • Complete all casework and homelessness prevention and/or relief activity (including research and information gathering, record keeping, assessments, the production and ongoing review of personalised housing plans, and timely decisions and notifications) in accordance with Part 7 of the Housing Act 1996 (as amended), the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017, guidance and case law, and the policies and procedures. This includes delivering high quality homelessness decisions.
  • To provide a comprehensive housing options service to the public, including retaining their current accommodation, obtaining alternative accommodation, debt counselling, welfare benefits and income maximisation advice, advice on landlord and tenant disputes and generally, wherever possible, to assist individuals to secure accommodation suitable for their needs, within the corganisations current homeless prevention agenda and financial and policy constraints
  • The successful candidate will have proven experience with this field of housing. Proven working knowledge of Part 6 & 7 of the Housing Act together with HRA2017 is essential. You should be able to work both on your own initiative, and as part of a team. Be sympathetic and assertive. Enthusiasm, self-motivation, and a mature and professional approach
