Account Manager - Automotive

Birmingham, UK

Salary: Competitive + Company Car + Bonus

Hybrid / Office Based

MDE, a thriving Automotive Manufacturing Company based in Birmingham, is seeking an experienced Account Manager to support the growth and adoption of new manufacturing programmes. As an Account Manager, you will work with prestigious automotive OEMs to provide highly technical components and assemblies for current and future vehicles.

The ideal candidate will have experience managing automotive OEM customers, with a desire to leverage new business and sales through a consultative approach. You should be able to offer technical solutions within the capabilities of the business. Although this is mainly an account management position, we expect the Account Manager to be proactive in developing these accounts for commercial success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Establish a strong presence as the primary point of contact for designated customer accounts, building enduring relationships with decision-makers across all commercial aspects.
  • Use strategic selling techniques to effectively manage interactions with clients.
  • Create and execute Account Plans for each designated customer, with a focus on maximising profitability. Conduct monthly reviews and generate reports/actions as needed.
  • Present Business Proposals to the Steering Committee (STC) within customer deadlines, maintaining high standards in submissions.
  • Lead real-time commercial negotiations within established parameters to secure customer nominations.
  • Ensure compliance with established procedures in all aspects of costing, new business creation, and day-to-day administration.
  • Support formalised initiatives for prospecting new business in automotive manufacturing operations, identifying market intelligence and seizing opportunities.
  • Contribute to the compilation of the Sales Forecast and Budget process, gathering key customer intelligence for accuracy.
  • Promptly resolve operational or relationship issues within designated accounts.
  • Foster the development of junior team members and promote an engaging and participative culture.
  • Lead Sales team activities to enhance teamwork and efficiency.
  • Act as a deputy for the Group Sales & Marketing Director and Sales Director when necessary, ensuring comprehensive awareness of all relevant commercial issues within the business.

Requirements:

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritise tasks effectively.
  • At least 5 years of experience in the Automotive Industry, preferably within a Tier 1 company selling to an OEM
  • Understanding of Solution Selling and Account Management principles.
  • Exposure to New Business Sales is a plus.
  • Self-motivated, enthusiastic, well-presented, and possessing gravitas.
  • Excellent communication skills in all forms of media.
  • Highly numerate with proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Flexible approach to work and willingness to travel for business within the UK and Europe.
  • Full Driving Licence required.
