We are seeking an Associate General Counsel, EU Privacy to join our Legal team as our first hire based in Dublin, Ireland. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in EU privacy, data protection, security, and AI, with a proven track record of building robust processes and programs to address complex privacy and data protection issues for the EU and EEA.   • Develop and implement comprehensive EU privacy and data protection strategies that align with the technology, product, and services Anthropic is building and our overall company goals
  • Provide expert legal advice and guidance on privacy, data protection, and direct marketing laws, regulations, and best practices, with a focus on European jurisdictions
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement privacy-by-design principles in product development, particularly in the realm of emerging technologies and AI
  • Build and maintain relationships with key regulators and stay abreast of emerging legal and regulatory developments in the privacy and data protection landscape
  • Lead the development and execution of privacy impact assessments, training programs to employees, data protection audits, and other compliance initiatives
  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts and agreements related to data processing, data sharing, and vendor management
You may be a good fit if you:
  • Have 8+ years of legal experience, in addition to in-house experience preferably in startup or high-growth environments
  • Have a law degree and are qualified to practice as a lawyer in at least one member state of the European Union
  • Have a deep knowledge of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and ePrivacy Directive and their practical application in a global context
  • Have extensive experience advising on privacy, data protection, and direct marketing laws, regulations, and guidance in Europe
  • Have a strong understanding of the interplay between privacy, security, and AI, and the ability to provide strategic guidance in these areasHave excellent leadership skills and the ability to drive projects forward in a fast-paced, hands-on environment
  • Have exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with regulators, internal teams, external partners and experience speaking to media
  • Have proven ability to think strategically and translate complex legal concepts into practical business solutions
  • Have full professional fluency in English; proficiency in additional European languages is a plus
Strong candidates may also:
  • Possess a deep understanding of data protection regulations in other jurisdictions, enabling them to support the organization's global data protection efforts
  • Have experience with privacy-enhancing technologies and their implementation in a business setting
  • Demonstrate a track record of successfully managing data breach incidents, including coordinating with relevant authorities and communicating with affected individuals
  • Have knowledge and experience with other EU regulations like the EU AIA, Digital Markets Act, Digital Services Act, EU Copyright Directive preferred
  • Have a network of contacts within the data protection community, allowing them to stay informed about best practices and share knowledge with peers
