Job description
ATSS Engineering has a client in Calvert, AL looking for a Day Shift Electrical Maintenance Manager - Steelmaking.
The ideal candidate will spearhead electrical maintenance for the Electric Arc Furnace (EAF), Ladle Metallurgy Facility (LMF), Degasser, Slab Caster, and supporting auxiliary equipment. He/she will lead training of maintenance electricians and the development of maintenance procedures, while participating in the development of equipment maintenance plans to ensure a safe and reliable start-up and continuous operation.
Position will have two phases: Phase 1 Initial Project Execution/Start Up ( 1.5 years); Phase 2 Operations going forward once project complete.
The Basics:
- Bachelors degree in Engineering, Business, or related field; or equivalent experience leading a team in a steelmaking/melt shop environment
- Minimum High School Diploma or GED required
- Minimum of 3 5 years of experience in steelmaking industry in engineering, management, or similar role
- Strong management skills with the ability to lead a team with minimal supervision
- In depth process control knowledge
- Experience to motivate and drive individuals toward a win-win situation
- Intermediate computer skills to include Microsoft Office and SAP
The Extras:
- Bachelors degree preferred
- 6+ years of experience in management position in steelmaking industry
- Technical knowledge of electrical equipment to include drives, PLCs, instruments, motors, starters, switchgears, transformers, electro-mechanical systems, cooling water systems, baghouses, overhead cranes, etc. strongly desired
- Technical & process knowledge of a Melt Shop preferred

WHAT YOULL BE DOING
Project Execution and Start-up phase:
- Perform construction site safety walkthroughs and establish supervisor safety contacts
- Lead training of electrical maintenance staff and development of maintenance procedures prior to startup
- Perform miscellaneous tasks to support construction activities
- Evaluate and interview candidates for maintenance positions during the hiring process
- Contribute to and ensure HIRAC safety reviews are performed for maintenance procedures
- Ensure development of energy control procedures meet operational needs
- Perform electrical early equipment management reviews of OEM equipment
- Contribute to development of equipment commissioning plan and factory acceptance testing (performance guarantees)
- Contribute to the development of equipment maintenance plans prior to start-up
Operations Phase:
Health, Safety, Environmental, Quality
- Responsible for Safety, Quality, Environmental and Equipment Availability of Steelmaking electrical equipment, while assisting with mechanical needs when necessary
- Lead or participate in incident root cause analysis and corrective actions for major failures: safety incident, environmental deviation, quality deviation, production loss
- Investigate during the shift safety, quality, environmental and production incidents
- Check and ensure Steelmaking equipment complies with all environmental regulations
- Ensure technicians are appropriately trained to perform their duties
Team Management
- Lead electrical team to achieve performance KPIs: Equipment availability, schedule compliance, PM compliance, delay rates
- Communicate and provide leadership and vision to Maintenance Electricians
- Demonstrates commitment to teamwork by fostering an environment that embodies trust and respect

- Organize the teams work schedules, vacations, and fill-ins
- Evaluate performance of mechanics and take actions to develop their, skills including disciplinary corrective actions
- Ensure housekeeping standards are implemented and maintained
Performance Management
- Identify appropriate counter measures in case of non-achievement of performance targets
- Troubleshoot equipment to limit unplanned downtime
- Work with EAF, LMF, RH, refractory interfaces for the overall benefit of steelmaking mill
- Communicate and plan with the production team to ensure equipment maintenance is coordinated with the production schedule
- Lead electrical maintenance planning and scheduling activities, including downturns and outages
- Report data and take actions as needed or directed by upper management
- Provide resources to engineers and specialists for achieving their objectives
- Work with multi-disciplinary teams on continuous improvement projects
- Lead and/or participate in continuous improvement activities
- Assist with budget development and budget management in support of the Area Manager
POSITION IN THE ORGANIZATION
- Report to: Area Manager Electrical Maintenance Steelmaking
- Direct reporting team members: None during project phase; 5+ Maintenance Electricians and contractors during operations phase

- Office and Industrial setting in the Steelmaking facility
- Construction setting during first 1.5 years
- Gulf coast region in Calvert, AL
- Days, Monday to Friday with extended hours as required due to periods of peak workloads
