Job description

Position Overview: The selected Sr. Principal Mechanical Engineer (Structural Analysis) will support defense programs and be responsible for analyzing complex systems and developing solutions to structural analysis problems. Establish design concepts, criteria and engineering efforts for product research, development, integration, and test. Essential Functions: Performs structural analysis, functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.
Generates reports and presents to Government counterparts, defense contractors, and other cross-functional organizations.
Research, plans, designs and develops mechanical products and systems.
Applies research to the planning, design, development, and testing of mechanical and/or electromechanical systems, instruments, controls, engines, and/or machines. Basic Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and 9 years of related experience, or a Master's Degree and 7 years of related experience, or 4 years of experience with a PhD.
Years of experience for this role is capped at 15 years
Strong background in mechanical design, analysis, assembly and integration and environmental testing
Experience with design and development of precision mechanical components and assemblies.
Ability to conduct trade studies of engineering analysis and present results in written format
Demonstrated ability to articulate technical concepts to other internal and customer teams.
Finite Element/Finite Difference analysis experience
Computer aided design experience using Solidworks or equivalent CAD packages
Experience with thermal and structural analysis methodologies and software tools.
Must be able to support an in-person / closed-area work environment.
Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% to support business needs.
Applicants must have a current active in-scope U.S. Government DoD issued Secret security clearance which is required to start.
