Job Title: System Safety Engineer Job Location: Huntsville VA 35649 Onsite Requirements: Familiarity with 29 CFR 1910 and MIL-STD- years of System Safety experience Knowledge of System Safety fundamentals Job Description: We are seeking an experienced System Safety Engineer to join our team, supporting the NASA Lunar Terrain Vehicle Services Program. The selected candidate will apply system safety engineering principles and practices, focusing on safety standards, risk management, and compliance with military and government regulations. The role will involve collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure the safety and integrity of aerospace systems for space exploration and military hardware projects. Key Responsibilities: Apply system safety engineering fundamentals to ensure compliance with relevant safety standards, such as 29 CFR 1910 and MIL-STD-882. Conduct safety hazard analysis and risk assessments for complex systems. Develop and review safety documentation, ensuring compliance with industry and governmental regulations. Provide risk management support by identifying and mitigating potential system risks related to safety. Perform Software Hazard Analyses and Ammunition/Explosives Safety Standards evaluations as required. Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to develop safe design solutions and ensure system safety compliance. Work with Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) to assess program risks and develop strategies for system safety improvements. Support and lead safety engineering activities for government and military projects. Ensure compliance with all regulatory and client safety requirements throughout the program lifecycle. Required Skills and Qualifications: Minimum of 5-10 years of experience in system safety engineering, with expertise in applying 29 CFR 1910 and MIL-STD-882 standards. Experience with risk management and safety hazard analysis. Familiarity with software safety engineering and working with military and aerospace systems. Proficiency with Microsoft Office for documentation and reporting. Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with engineering teams and clients. Ability to work with minimal supervision and take the lead on safety-related tasks. Desired Skills: Experience in government or military safety programs. Familiarity with Software Hazard Analyses, Explosives Safety Standards, and risk management processes. Knowledge of FAA, NASA, or DOD safety standards and procedures. Education: Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related technical field is required.
