Job description
Overview Independently performs routine and specialized overnight and day sleep studies Responsibilities Performs overnight and day sleep studies, routine and specialized, on a variety of patients within all age groups excluding neonate and infant Explain testing procedures to patients to obtain cooperation and reduce anxiety. Monitor patients' comfort and safety during tests, alerting physicians to abnormalities or changes in patient responses. Obtain and record patient identification and medical history. Adjust equipment and controls according to physicians' orders or established protocol. Prepare and position patients for testing. Check, test, and maintain equipment, making minor repairs when necessary, to ensure proper operation. Scores sleep studies and generates reports summarizing data and physiological events. Attends workshops, seminars, lectures and other programs as appropriate to gain knowledge of current trends in sleep disorders and techniques to insure high quality/effective studies. Must be adaptive and flexible to handle situations because of emergencies, changing workload, personnel shortages, new instrumentation, new procedures, changes in procedures, disaster and/or unsuspected events. Responsible for checking email each shift and for communicating with Co-Workers, Lead Techs and Supervisors. Perform Disinfection as per manufacturer's recommendation (IFU) Adheres to standard precautions and hand hygiene Performs and accurately records technical procedures safely, effectively, efficiently, and within scope of policy Actively participates in department huddles, meetings, and communication Accountability related to meeting/exceeding department goals, DCH Values, DCH Mission and Vision DCH Standards: Maintains performance, patient and employee satisfaction and financial standards as outlined in the performance evaluation. Performs compliance requirements as outlined in the Employee Handbook Must adhere to the DCH Behavioral Standards including creating positive relationships with patients/families, coworkers, colleagues and with self. Performs essential job functions in a manner that ensures the safety of patients, visitors and employees. Identifies and reduces unsafe practices that may result in harm to patients, visitors and employees. Recognizes and takes appropriate action to reduce risks and hazards to promote safety for patients, visitors and employees. Requires use of electronic mail, time and attendance software, learning management software and intranet. Must adhere to all DCH Health System policies and procedures. All other duties as assigned. Qualifications Certified or Registered Respiratory Therapist (CRT or RRT) OR have at least 1 year of full time equivalent hours of experience as an Electroneurodiagnostic Tech or Sleep Tech OR completed a Sleep training program. CPR certification must be obtained prior to start date. Must be able to read, write legibly, speak and comprehend English. RPSGT credentialing or ASTEP course completion required within two years. Working Conditions: WORK CONTEXT Must be able to cooperate and work as a team with staff and patients. At times must be able to cope with challenging situations when caring for patients. Requires working with patient's who possibly have a sleep disorder and other health issues. Exposure to disease, infection and body fluid may occur. PHYSICAL FACTORS Frequently able to stand, walk, kneel, sit, bend or crouch with good balance. Ability to sit in front of a computer monitor in a quiet room more than half the time while remaining vigilant. Must be able to maneuver over uneven or rough surfaces. Must be able to ascend and descend stairs. Must be able to carry objects weighing up to 25 lbs. for 50 feet. Assist in turning and positioning patients weighing up to and beyond 200 lbs. Must be able to reach overhead to retrieve and/or replace objects. Must be able to perform the duties with or without reasonable accommodation. Hearing and vision must be normal or corrected to within normal range. Physical presence onsite is essential.
