General Manager - Marine Job Summary


We are seeking a General Manager of Marine Operations to be responsible for overseeing and managing all marine operationsfor the company. This role includes strategic planning, resource management, operational efficiency, safety compliance, and customer satisfaction. The General Manager will lead a team of marine professionals, including captains, engineers, and logistics staff, to ensure the safe, reliable, and cost-effective delivery of fuel and freight services to remote communities across Alaska.

General Manager - Marine Responsibilities

  • Leadership and Management:

    • Provide leadership and direction to the Marine Operations team, fostering a culture of safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
    • Develop and implement strategic plans to enhance operational efficiency, optimize fleet utilization, and achieve business growth objectives.
    • Collaborate with the executive team to set operational goals, budgets, and key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Operational Oversight:

    • Oversee the day-to-day marine operations, including vessel scheduling, route planning, cargo management, and fuel delivery.
    • Ensure that all operations are conducted in compliance with company policies, industry regulations, and safety standards.
    • Monitor fleet performance and maintenance schedules to minimize downtime and maximize operational efficiency.
  • Safety and Compliance:

    • Promote a strong safety culture across all marine operations, ensuring adherence to safety protocols, environmental regulations, and company standards.
    • Lead incident investigations and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
    • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of federal and state maritime laws and regulations, ensuring the company's compliance.
  • Financial Management:

    • Manage the marine operations budget, including cost control, resource allocation, and financial reporting.
    • Identify opportunities for cost savings, process improvements, and revenue enhancement.
    • Provide regular financial and operational performance reports to the executive team.
  • Stakeholder Relations:

    • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including customers, vendors, regulatory authorities, and local communities.
    • Represent the company at industry events, meetings, and negotiations to enhance the company's reputation and business opportunities.
  • Personnel Development:

    • Recruit, train, and mentor marine operations staff to develop a high-performing team.
    • Conduct performance evaluations, provide feedback, and support professional development initiatives.

General Manager - Marine Position Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred
  • 5 years of experience managing a US tug and barge fleet
  • Proven experience in a leadership role
  • Ship captain with product transport experience preferred
  • Travel required
