Qualifications: Education
Bachelor's Degree BSN Required
Other Enrolled in MSN or M Ed Program within 30 days of hire and completed within 24 months of hire Required
Experience
3 years As a direct patient care RN Required
Licenses and Certifications
Nursing\RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure And/Or Compact State Licensure Licensure as a registered nurse in the State of Arizona Upon Hire Required
Certification in ANCC approved nursing specialty or nursing professional development - if not on hire achieves within twelve (12) months of accepting the position. Required
Responsibilities: Job Summary
The Clinical Nurse Educator provides clinical and nursing professional expertise as an educator, leader, consultant, facilitator, change agent and researcher to support the organization in the provision of quality patient care by helping to ensure the clinical competence of nursing staff and foster the delivery of evidence-based nursing practice. The Educator uses evidence-based practices and research that focuses on the knowledge and skills required to care for patients in the assigned areas including quality improvement, safety, and regulatory/accreditation requirements, and outcomes evaluation of programs, projects, education and training. The Educator collaborates with the leadership team and staff regarding patient care and staff performance issues, participates in setting standards, and maintains knowledge and skills in assigned area(s). The Educator advances and leads educational practices based on the HonorHealth Nursing Professional Practice Model, strategic plan and in accordance with the Association of Nursing Professional Development's Scope and Standards of Professional Nursing Practice.
Transformational Leadership:
Supports the ongoing development of staff through coaching, mentoring, and role modeling.
Approaches work from a systems thinking perspective considering network, service line and/or campus impact of activities.
Collaborates with members of leadership team in providing appropriate educational opportunities for licensed and unlicensed personnel.
Maintains accountability for independent educator practice, schedule and work produced.
Attends and constructively participates in employee education, department meetings and/or inservices as scheduled or directed.
Maintains an active rounding practice to "go and see" activities such as training initiatives in process, progress of orientee and preceptor dyads, how skills are applied in the clinical setting.
Structural Empowerment:
Completes a continuing education needs assessment using staff surveys, outcome metrics, regulatory standards, and other data for area of assignment then plans, develops, conducts, and evaluates, mandatory and elective education and on-the-job training programs.
Conducts follow up assessments to ensure the training meets the employee's needs and that the desired behaviors are being exhibited. Evaluates the impact of educational programs on improving patient care, quality, cost, and experience and communicates findings to stakeholders.
Teaches content as needed and/or assigned in formal and informal settings with a focus on improvement of skills and retention of knowledge using appropriate strategies, technologies and adult learning principles.
Ensures that educational activities are implemented in a professional and timely manner, adjusts content and teaching strategies appropriate to learner needs, and documents teaching/learning process and outcomes in accordance with standards. Adheres to and supports organizational education recordkeeping policies.
Regularly teaches or facilitates new hire orientation, clinical academies, residency, mentor, and preceptor programs which contribute to employee retention and engagement.
Serves as an expert consultant for staff in areas of program development, clinical practice, and professional development.
Exemplary Professional Practice:
Assists in dissemination of quality measures, educates staff on quality methodology, and implementation of performance improvement activities.
Educates staff on patient safety initiatives and facilitates support of organizational strategies to meet expectations of patient safety benchmarks.
Executes tasks and behaves in a manner consistent with a culture of compliance, safety and a high reliability organization and adheres to organizational policies and procedures.
In collaboration with nursing leadership contributes to and executes on the organization's process for defining, assessing, maintaining, demonstrating, and improving the competence of nursing staff on an ongoing basis linking competencies to unit performance measures or system outcomes.
In collaboration with leader(s) develops a system or process to alert leadership to low performers of required skills and competencies and participates in action/coaching plan to improve performance. Also recognizes high performing staff members.
New Knowledge, Innovations & Improvements:
Researches and implements new educational information and/or appraises evidence and synthesizes key findings in order to remain current on programs, processes, and procedures that impact current training and development projects. Shares new information with leaders and peers.
Incorporates virtual, simulation, and emerging technological strategies into the design, implementation and evaluation of staff education programs. Collaborates with IT department or other stakeholders such as LMS administrator as needed.
Supports the implementation of clinical practice changes that are based on current trends, evidence-based practice, research, and evidence-based research and develops the staff to use the latest evidence-based practice relative to safe, cost-effective and optimal nursing care.
Develops and implements creative and innovative approaches to training which increase learner retention and/or improve patient outcomes.
