Medical Billing Specialist - Follow up & Collections

LHH Recruitment Solutions is searching for a full-time Medical Billing Specialist on a Direct Hire basis for a client in Phoenix, AZ. Our client is seeking a Medical Billing Specialist to handle follow up and collections and obtain additional information for claims processing.


This position is located in Phoenix, AZ and is 100% onsite!


Compensation: $21-24 per hour, with potential sign-on bonus


Schedule: Monday - Friday, 6am-4pm, flexible


Job Type: Direct Hire


Responsibilities:

  • Assigning specific codes to medical procedures and diagnoses for billing and reimbursement purposes in the healthcare field.

  • Gathering and verifying patient data, including demographic details, insurance particulars, and medical history.

  • Compiling and forwarding claims to insurance companies and governmental entities for payment processing.

  • Pursuing unpaid claims and addressing denials, resolving any related issues, and resubmitting claims when necessary.

  • Engaging with patients to address inquiries and address concerns related to their bills and available payment alternatives.

  • Remaining informed about evolving healthcare regulations, insurance policies, and billing protocols.

  • Maintaining meticulous and precise records of all financial transactions and patient data.

  • Ensuring adherence to healthcare laws and regulations governing billing and privacy matters.

  • Demonstrating proficiency in insurance collections, encompassing activities such as negotiating payment arrangements, reviewing overpayments, and handling correspondence.

  • Handling patient calls to support collection efforts, including assessing eligibility for charity programs, arranging payment plans, negotiating discounts, and addressing patient complaints.

  • Conducting comprehensive account reviews, including tasks like tracing missing information, researching correspondence, resubmitting secondary claims, examining payments, and updating insurance and demographic details in accordance with billing policies.

  • Possessing a sound working knowledge of HCPCS, CPT, ICD-9, and ICD-10 codes, medical terminology, and clinical documentation.

  • Recognizing billing requirements for various payers and assisting in educating staff on billing prerequisites for both new and existing payers.

  • Understanding insurance regulations and guidelines, including CMS guidelines, to effectively communicate with payers regarding outstanding claims, slow payments, underpayments, denials, and to ensure compliant and accurate claim processing.

  • Adhering to the Company's Health, Safety, and Environment (HS&E) policies and procedures.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, required

  • Undergrad Degree or associated certificates, preferred

  • 5+ years of previous experience in medical billing/collections, required.

  • Basic Excel proficiency, required
