Job description

Description We are seeking a Missile Technical Representative to providetechnical representation and management coordination between the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab (APL) and Raytheon Technology Corporation (RTX) / Tucson relative to the STANDARD Missile Program. Duties: Work with and as an extension of APL program management in leading STANDARD Missile (SM) production and obsolescence related efforts across all SM product lines, to include SM-2 Blk IIIC/U, SM-6 Block I/U, SM-6 Blk IA/U, SM-6 Blk IB, SM-2 Foreign Military Sales (FMS) and others as required.
Serve as an APL Point of Contact (POC) and main conduit between APL, PEO IWS 3.0 weapons program management and Raytheon (RTX) as well as production, development and technical leadership from SM programs with a primary focus on improving cooperation and collaboration between development and production teams in order to provide PEO IWS 3.0 sponsor technical recommendations and awareness of risks and opportunities for resolution of critical obsolescence issues and insight into effective technical insertion points for hardware and software obsolescence items.
Participate in contractor team meetings to include obsolescence working groups, program management reviews, test readiness reviews, permit to ship, FRB/FITs, configuration control boards, TIMs, etc with a focus on production engineering issues and how they can more efficiently take advantage of development projects and technology. Witness and participate in RTX production, obsolescence, development, test and risk mitigation activities and interact with RTX management and technical staff as appropriate.
Through coordination and communication with the APL Weapons Chief Engineer (CE), monitor SM product line production and development schedules with a focus on opportunities for efficient and effective tech refresh/insertion across the product lines, to include technology in development and production from both RTX as well as outside vendors.
Coordinate with APL staff - both on-site field representatives and home office - and Navy TECHREP to understand issues and lessons learned for missile variants that may have applicability or benefit to other missile programs (tech insertion). Report findings to APL management and technical leadership and identify needs, reach-back opportunities and APL technical analyses/studies.
Maintain the "STANDARD Missile Acquisition Roadmap" to include all necessary weapon variants, obsolescence timelines, development and production timelines and identify areas of risk for production gaps or obsolescence and opportunity for tech insertion and production schedule alignment. Integrate "lifetime buy" and product end of life planning.
Through discussions, review of products, and visits to the APL Howard County facility, develop and maintain awareness and understanding of APL's competencies/capabilities, as well as knowledge of the scope, content, and status of missile-related tasks and associated technology development efforts for PEO IWS 3.0.
Provide requested support to the TECHREP office which will be determined in coordination with the PMs. This support will be provided to the best extent possible but will be on a not to interfere basis with any primary TDA tasking. In addition, support TECHREP meetings and provide input to the TECHREP weekly report as appropriate.
Coordinate visits to the APL Field Office at RTX/Tucson, which is utilized by short-term APL/Government visitors. Assist visiting APL personnel to ensure that appropriate visit requests and other necessary provisions are in place prior to their arrival. Qualifications Required Qualifications: BS in engineering, physics, mathematics or equivalent experience. At least 10+ years of relevant experience in missile systems engineering or relevanttechnicalprofessional field to include Navy related tasking. Strong organization and planning skills, with a record of accomplishment in a multi-discipline team environment. Demonstrated ability to understand the government/contractor environment and work comfortably as a "trusted agent" within that environment. Ability to effectively work independently and take a prudent level of initiative. Hold an active Secret security clearance and can ultimately obtain a Top Secret clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship. Desired Qualifications: MS in engineering, physics, mathematics, or equivalent experience. Knowledge across a broad range of missile disciplines, including software and firmware development and qualification, aerodynamics, propulsion, seekers, guidance, control, fuzing, integration & test, modeling & simulation, and manufacturing. Experience with SM-2 or SM-6. Program management experience and knowledge of the Defense Acquisition process. Working knowledge of the PEO IWS, MDA, and RMD organizations. Current Top Secret/SCI clearance. Special Requirements: (off-site # days, clearance, etc.):
Work site located in the greater-Tucson, Arizona area. Periodic travel to the APL Howard County, MD campus and greater DC area. Local travel to other Raytheon facilities and travel to Navy Laboratories and field test sites as required. Why work at APL?
