Job description
POSITION SUMMARY
The Clinical Supervisor-Nursing is responsible for assisting unit Director and/or Manager with the day-to-day operational management of the assigned nursing or clinical unit to include the direct supervision of RNs and nursing staff. Expectations of the Supervisor include working directly with the Director and/or Manager in development of the nursing staff including education, department competencies, evaluation, performance correction, and patient safety and customer service-related issues. The Supervisor will assist nursing and unit-based care staff in their professional development. In addition to day-to-day operational supervision, the focus of the Supervisor will be on developing and enhancing clinical knowledge, technical skills, clinical decision-making skills, professional performance standards and inter-personal skills that nursing and care staff use to provide safe, high quality patient care services.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Accountable for performance improvement activities through orientation, education, quality control and planning.
Assists the Director with the operations of assigned areas (budget, regulatory compliance, and resource utilization).
Demonstrates clinical performance in the department, acting as a clinical resource.
Demonstrates excellent communication skills and ability to consistently meet customer service standards.
Displays a professional commitment to the organization, supporting the unit team and promoting unity and teamwork interdepartmentally through positive working relationships.
Serves as a role model, demonstrating effective patient care, leadership, and professional behavior.
Ensures that the clinical aspects of patient care services are met (staffing, workflow, resources availability)
Identifies and provides for staff development.
Informs, teaches, and enforces adherence to new or revised hospital or departmental policies and procedures.
Manages human resources effectively (interview, hire, counsel, evaluation, assist with terminations, decrease vacancies and turnover).
Evaluates staff performance, including following processes appropriate for counseling and progressive discipline.
Provides a professional and competent role model for customer services and collaborates practice, acts as an administrative resource.
Integrates the principles and philosophy of the professional nursing care delivery system into practice.
Supports a safe, blame free and healing environment for patients, visitors and personnel.
Assists Staff in problem solving and responding to patient, family, physician and visitor complaints or needs during the shift.
Utilizes the patient acuity system (Kronos) and ensures timely documentation of patient acuity.
Utilizes Kronos to appropriately assign meals and breaks.
Assists in gathering data for nurse sensitive metrics and regulatory compliance.
Coaches staff in time management to improve efficiency and avoid overtime.
Supports staff compliance with hourly rounding and other initiatives to promote patient engagement and satisfaction.
ALL ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND CORE REQUIREMENTS MUST BE PERFORMED CONSISTENT WITH THE MHSC PERFORMANCE STANDARDS.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education Minimum (Required) Bachelor's degree in nursing
Preferred (Not required)
Work Experience Minimum (Required)
A Minimum of 5 years RN experience in acute care required.
Demonstrates advanced written / verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred (Not required) Prior management / leadership experience preferred.
Licenses and Certifications Minimum (Required)
A current RN license in the State of California required.
Must successfully complete and maintain ACLS certification.
Must successfully complete and maintain BLS certification.
Obtain/Posses current Management of Assaultive Behavior Certification; can obtain within 6 months of hire.

Pay Transparency
