Wonderful College Prep Academy is accepting applications for part-time tutor positions in the GEAR UP program at Avenal High School. GEAR UP Tutors will follow the student cohorts through their high school years. Assignments will be approximately 22 hours per week during lunch periods, and/or during class times (mornings and/or afternoons). Workdays will align with the Reef-Sunset Unified School District and Wonderful College Prep Academy calendars. This position will report to the GEAR UP Coordinator in Avenal, CA. This is an in-person position.

The GEAR UP Tutor's responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

Provide tutoring services to students 1:1 or in small groups in classrooms.

Collaborate with and provide support for GEAR UP staff.

Work directly with students to provide various academic support services (i.e., tutoring; assisting with completing forms; assisting with workshops).

Assist in the planning, organizing, and implementing GEAR UP grant activities.

Follow school and GEAR UP protocols and procedures.

Perform related duties as assigned.

Tutor Hours: Monday - Friday: 10:30AM - 4:30PM (w/ 30-minute lunch break)

ABOUT THE GEAR UP GRANT: GEAR UP is a federally funded Title III Grant. Wonderful College Prep Academy, in partnership with Avenal and Sanger Unified School Districts, will work with 6th and 7th-grade students from four middle schools to prepare them for college. This discretionary grant program is designed to increase the number of low-income students prepared to enter and succeed in postsecondary education. GEAR UP provides seven-year grants to states and partnerships to provide services at high-poverty middle and high schools. GEAR UP grantees serve an entire cohort of students beginning no later than the seventh grade and follow the cohort through high school and their first year of college.
