QUALIFICATIONS: This position requires command of the English language. Also required is knowledge of pertinent academic areas and learning situations, as well as general needs and behaviors of students; proper classroom supervision techniques and procedures; knowledge of designated academic, vocational and/or specialized areas of learning, sufficient to instruct students at a specified level of achievement.

Must possess the skill to verbally communicate in an effective and tactful manner; write clearly and understand the needs of assigned students and to effectively relate to these needs in a learning situation; learn the requirements of students in specific learning programs to which assigned; analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action; supervise students in a variety of situations; establish and maintain accurate classroom records and files; operate standard office equipment including computer typewriter, copy machines, tape recorders and projectors; maintain calm and patience in stressful situations; understand and carry out oral and written instructions in an independent manner; establish and maintain cooperative work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties.

Must possess the ability to assist teacher (s) in instructing individuals and small groups of students in various learning situations including basic academic subjects, self-help, social integration, vocational skills, personal hygiene, etc.; supervise students in the performance of Journey Career Center community job-related experience placements on a daily or regular basis; assist in the preparation and transporting of students from the classroom into the community for job exploration; provides teacher (s) and school administrators with relevant feedback and information on student's progress through observation and daily contact; assist in preparing and maintaining required paperwork, records, and reports for assigned program area as necessary; perform related duties as required.

This position may require the skill to speak, read, and write specified foreign language where required; administer first aid for minor injuries; learn physical requirements and/or specific needs of the students.

Clerical experience and work involving the supervision of students is desirable. Completion of the twelfth grade is required, preferably supplemented by college level courses.

THE FOLLOWING ARE REQUIRED AND MUST BE SUBMITTED:

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. and one of the following:
  • Proof of passing Paraprofessional Exam from any district
  • AA Degree or higher
  • At least 48 college units
  • Passing CBEST (California Basic Education Skills Test)

MUST POSSESS AND MAINTAIN A VALID CALIFORNIA DRIVER'S LICENSE. A CURRENT COPY OF DMV DRIVING RECORD WILL BE REQURIED OF SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE PRIOR TO EMPLOYMENT.

A substance abuse test at District expense is required as a condition of employment after all other required job conditions have been met. This position will also be subject to random and for-cause substance abuse testing during the term of employment.

A CRIMINAL HISTORY CHECK WILL BE REQUIRED OF SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE PRIOR TO EMPLOYMENT.

DUTIES OF POSITION: Assist a certificated teacher (s) in the instruction, supervision and training of individual or groups of students by performing a variety of instructional support and student care activities and to perform a variety related duties in the maintenance of an effective learning and training environment at the Journey Career Center. Employees in this classification receive direct to limited supervision from a certificated teacher (s) and/or school site administrator within a well-defined framework of policies and procedures. This job classification provides a variety of responsible instructional support activities to enhance the educational environment within the District and requires a high degree of positive contact with both students and certificated staff at the Center, as well as community/job related personnel.

STARTING SALARY: $1,822.89 (monthly)

NUMBER OF MONTHS: 9.4 (to begin as soon as possible)

NUMBER OF HOURS: 5.5 (daily working hours 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.)
