Job description
Duties Install and repair a wide variety of medical, laboratory, and dental equipment. Determine the nature and the extent of repairs required by inspecting equipment for malfunction. Perform operational tests after repairs have been accomplished. Plan and carry out work assignments using blueprints, schematic drawings, technical manuals, wiring diagrams, liquid and air flow sheets, and other specifications. Requirements Conditions of Employment Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance. This position may be designated "Mission Essential." In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations. This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series. Position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position. Position has a lifting requirement of up to 45lbs. Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Medical Equipment Repairer without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common tasks on most medical equipment. I can maintain medical equipment in order to ensure a safe environment of care; review instructions to make repairs using cables, gears, shafts, and/or pulleys; and determine the nature and extent of repairs. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Use of Measuring Instruments PHYSICAL EFFORT - Primarily moderate lifting with occasional heavy work of short duration in cramped or awkward positions. Incumbent may be required to climb ladders. Good vision, normal color perception and hearing are required. WORKING CONDITIONS - Hazards include but are not limited to: electrical shock, burns, cuts, exposure to non-ionizing radiation, exposure to infectious disease from handling of equipment used in rooms of contagious patients, occasional exposure to ultraviolet rays, .and high frequency radiation. The incumbent will work both inside and outside, normally, under favorable conditions. Risk factors will be assessed accordingly before allowing any technician to begin work in a potentially hazardous environment. Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
