Overview:
Lead Tutor
Status: Part-Time
Pay Rate: $22/hour
Lead Tutors act as the on-site point of contact during program hours for students, parents, and school day staff. Lead tutors track student attendance and coordinate student sign-in and dismissal. Lead tutors communicate with parents and school day staff through the site phone regarding student participation and updates. Lead tutors take the lead on any unusual incidents and emergencies, and they must communicate all program challenges to the Program Supervisor immediately.
Lead Tutors work directly with elementary, middle, and/or high school students to achieve mastery of grade level academic content in small groups. Lead tutors can support students with class assignments, projects, test prep, or skill building based on student need and/or teacher guidance. Lead Tutors serve as a positive adult role model, coach, and mentor to students, and they must demonstrate a genuine interest in the academic growth and educational achievement of students. Lead tutors ensure students follow program expectations and utilize the approved behavior management system as necessary.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Coordinate student check-in and sign-out processes.
• Assists the Program Supervisor with programmatic logistics.
• Ensure student attendance is tracked accurately.
• Manage site phone.
• Communicate with parents and school day staff regarding student participation and progress in the program.
• Takes the lead on any unusual incidents to program supervisor and ensure compliance with incident and emergency protocols.
• Implement approved behavior management system for students.
• Provide small group and individualized academic support for students.
• Utilize AVID strategies to support students in goal setting, work habits, and skill building to improve their grades and test scores.
• Create an engaging environment that fosters a sense of belonging for students.
• Serve as a positive adult role model to coach, and mentor the students, and they demonstrate a genuine interest in the academic growth and educational achievement of students.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
• 48 college semester or 60 college quarter units OR a Bachelor's Degree are required.
• Ability to speak and write Standard English appropriate in a public-school setting.
• Minimum age of 22
• At least 1 year of experience working with a group of 10 or more students in a classroom, afterschool, or recreation environment.
• Advanced Math and English skills (6-12 grade)
• Excellent communication skills (Written and Verbal)
• Support our English-learner population by being bi-literate (Spanish preferred)
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Maintain highest degree of confidentiality.
• Comply with organization policies and follow procedures.
• Must pass Live Scan (criminal background check via fingerprinting)
• Provide a clear TB test.
• Pass Advanced Math and English skills (K-8) testing.
