Position Summary
The Director of New Product Development is responsible for crafting and managing the product/technology portfolio strategy, leading short and long-range planning for the business, and optimizing operational execution for new product/technology development.
Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer (CTO), the Director of Advanced Development plays a key leadership role in determining business, portfolio, and product strategy, setting direction, bringing in the voice of the customer into the organization, and delivering world-class products to support the corporate growth strategy.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with CTO and Business Development leadership to create and manage the new product pipeline and technology roadmap, to ensure successive annual rollouts of value-added profitable products, to achieve corporate growth targets.
- Provides leadership and support for the successful design, development, deployment, and refinement of new products.
- Develop, maintain, and update new product development process to ensure new concepts/products are available to be transitioned to production including:
- Ideation capture
- Technology assessment
- Ideation prioritization
- Proof of concept
- Market viability validation
- Champion prioritized new concepts/products through the development process to transition-to-production.
- Drive operational execution within the product development functions to meet key business outcomes across those areas
- Continuously evaluate the development process and associated resources to optimize and ensure key learnings and best practices are documented and shared institutionally.
- Maintain ongoing communication with Engineering and Manufacturing to ensure a thorough understanding of critical new product parameters to ensure successful production.
- Serve in cross-functional roles & responsibilities in support of corporate objectives
- Participation in Sales & Operations Planning process
- Support for Strategic Planning
- Periodically present project updates to the leadership team.
- Other duties as assigned by CSO or Executive Team
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Systems Engineering.
- 10 years relevant experience, including product development and team management
- Ability to communicate with others to exchange information both orally and in writing.
- Ability to read, interpret, drawings, codes, and specifications.
- Knowledge and skill with using 3D computer sided design software (CAD).
- Familiarity with the interpretation and application of the ASME Y14 series of drawing standards.
- Citizenship: U.S. Citizen or qualified U.S. Person in accordance with ALU 22CFR 120.15. May require the ability to obtain DOD security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Management or Engineering.
- 10 or more years Design Engineering experience.
- Three or more year's management experience
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
Must have the following physical abilities:
- Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, stretch, reach, and lift.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods at a desk or table as well as machine tools or printers.
