This is a hybrid onsite/remote opportunity where you will report to the WAPA location in Folsom, CA and have the flexibility to work from home based on business needs.
Our Customer's Mission:
The Western Area Power Administration (WAPA) is a federal agency under the United States Department of Energy (DOE) that manages and operates high-voltage electric transmission systems across 15 western states. WAPA's mission is to market and deliver reliable, cost-based, renewable power and transmission services to its customers, while also promoting energy efficiency and environmental sustainability. WAPA also manages and markets power from 56 federal hydroelectric power plants, which generate clean and renewable energy for 40 million customers.
Epsilon provides comprehensive and high-quality IT support to WAPA in the areas of; Software maintenance and development, Network, Database, and Operations Support/Management, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), Cyber-Security, Solution Architecture, and Project Management.
An average day:
As Java Developer I, you will assist in developing Java-based applications and data integration solutions while gaining hands-on experience in a high-volume, low-latency environment. This role will collaborate with senior team members and participate in all stages of the software development life cycle (SDLC) to build scalable and reliable systems. In this position you will:
Develop and maintain Java-based applications and TIBCO integrations in a high-volume, low-latency environment.
Troubleshoot real-time system issues and provide timely support.
Participate in all stages of the SDLC, including design, development, testing, and deployment.
Implement unit tests and automated tests to ensure code quality.
Apply Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) principles and standard design patterns.
Work with web services, REST APIs, and technologies like XML, JSON, and HTML.
Use version control tools (e.g., Git) and build tools (e.g., Ant, Maven, Gradle).
Collaborate with teams to gather requirements and define business processes.
Adhere to Agile methodologies and participate in team activities (e.g., sprints).
Support software releases and contribute to continuous improvement processes.
Basic Qualifications:
As a requirement of this position, all candidates must be a U.S. Citizen. In accordance with 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(2)(C), Epsilon will not consider candidates for this position who do not meet the aforementioned conditions.
Knowledge of Java programming and Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) principles.
Familiarity with TIBCO systems or a strong willingness to learn.
Exposure to web services (REST, XML, JSON) and web technologies like HTML.
Experience with code versioning tools such as Git (academic or project work counts).
Basic understanding of Agile methodologies (e.g., sprints, daily stand-ups).
Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure (willingness to learn if no prior experience).
Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on debugging and troubleshooting.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and follow guidance from senior developers.
Eagerness to learn and grow with new technologies, tools, and best practices.
Other Requirements:
Must be able to pass federal background investigation and obtain a Public Trust.
This position may require the ability to operate a government vehicle. The incumbent must be at least 18 years of age, able to obtain and maintain Defensive Drivers certification and have a valid state driver's license.
