Job description
Duties Direct administrative and technical work conducted by Air Traffic Control Specialists assigned to Bicycle Lake Army Airfield. Interpret Air Traffic Control policies, procedures, and practices emanating from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and military authorities to assist in resolving problems. Determine the need for and develop specialized air traffic and navigational procedures to meet local requirements, or to improve techniques and services, and recommend changes to standard procedures. Work as a scheduled controller in all positions within the Air Traffic Control, controlling arriving and departing aircraft by means of radar and two-way radio communications. Control aircraft conducting parachute operations, close air support missions using live ordnance and airmobile troop operations while ground units are conducting artillery live-fire exercises during training rotations. Observe air traffic control specialists, evaluate employee performance; identify training needs, implement disciplinary measures and advise on administrative matters. Conduct personnel management, interviewing applicants to fill positions, and recommend hiring, promotion or reassignments. Requirements Conditions of Employment Employees hired for the first time ("originally hired") into covered GS-2152 positions must not exceed the established Maximum Entry Age (MEA) at the time of appointment. The MEA for Air Traffic Controllers (ATCs) is 36. An employee originally hired into a covered ATC position must be hired by the last day of the month he/she reaches age 36 unless a waiver from Department of Army is approved prior to appointment. Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. Must successfully complete a pre-employment Class IV flight physical prior to being placed into this position, unless currently occupying a GS-2152 "covered" position. Must be able to maintain personal physical fitness in accordance with AR 40-501. Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance. Must be willing and able to submit to and pass a pre-employment urinalysis drug screening and random testing thereafter. Must possess and then continue to maintain a valid Federal Aviation Administration Air Traffic Control Specialist Certificate (FAA Form 7220-1). Must be able to obtain and maintain a Control Tower Operator's Certificate issued by an agency of the Federal government. Must be willing and able to support the Facility Training Program and be involved with one-on-one, on-the-job-training Must be willing to travel Temporary Duty Travel up to 10% of the time for the purpose of receiving/providing training instructions and/or other mission essential purposes AND travel via military and/or civilian air/ground transportation. Must be able to maintain necessary alertness, self-control, and emotional stability and be able to make rapid decisions and use precise judgment under emergency conditions Must be willing and able to work rotating shifts, be subject to on call status and work overtime Must be willing and able to work outside normal duty hours to include nights, weekends and holidays Qualifications Who May Apply: Only applicants who meet one of the employment authority categories below are eligible to apply for this job.
