Responsibilities:
Position Summary:

Incumbent analyzes documentation for coding and clinical deficiencies to support physician's diagnosis or lack thereof. Abstracts data elements from patient records for purposes of accurately coding of clinical documentation. Works in collaboration with clinical documentation specialists to resolve clinical documentation issues that would affect coding. Reviews coding work, answers clinical coding questions, and resolving coding problems for CDI and Performance Improvement units.

Required Qualifications:

Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties

Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job

Knowledge of anatomy and physiology, disease process and medical terminology

Knowledge of ICD-10 CM and CPT coding

Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English

Credentialed as RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P, CPC or CPC-H

Credentialed as ACDIS or CDIP within 6 months of appointment

Coding reimbursement experience

CIRCC Credential

Ability to work independently and be a self starter

Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System

3 - 5 years of acute multi-specialty hospital coding experience

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of University and medical center organizations, policies, procedures and forms
