The UC Irvine Department of History is a community of scholars who pride ourselves on teaching, research, professional and public service. The department is comprised of 37 senate faculty, 5-7 non senate lecturers, 45 PHD students, 5 MA students, and 325 undergraduate majors. The department houses the UCI History Project, the Career Development for Historians program and the Women and Social Movements Journal. In addition, we provide administrative support to the Religious Studies Program, Armenian Studies Program, Jewish Studies Minor and Native American and Indigenous Studies Minor.
Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the History Department Chair, Program Directors, and MSO the Undergraduate Programs Coordinator performs a full range of professional duties relating to the Undergraduate Programs of the Department of History, Program in Religious Studies, Armenian Studies, Jewish Studies, Native American Studies, and the UCI History Project. Responsible for the development and implementation of the annual course schedules, advise faculty and undergraduate students on the requirements, policies, and procedures for their respective programs, manages program operational budget and finances, and responsible for the recruitment and management of all Unit 18 faculty and Academic Coordinators under their respective programs (hiring, appointment, reappointment, etc.) Applies professional concepts, campus, school, and system wide policies, and procedures to provide guidance to the History Chair and Program Directors to resolve a variety of undergraduate program issues of moderate scope and complexity. Performs special projects as assigned.

Required:

Basic knowledge of and ability to apply / interpret organization and college policies and procedures which govern Undergraduate Programs and Academic HR.
Knowledge of organization, college and departmental formal and informal policies and procedures and understanding of variances to stated policies.
Knowledge of human resources management systems and other related business software programs and systems.
Knowledge of unit academic culture and educational goals of discipline(s) served.
Strong skills in short-term planning, analysis, problem-solving, and customer service.
Analytical skills to conduct analysis and develop recommendations to Chairs / unit management. Demonstrated organization, problem solving, and ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences.
Demonstrated experience working with confidential information and using sensitivity, tact and discretion in internal and external communications.
Demonstrated skill to assess priorities in order to complete work in a timely manner in an environment of deadline constraints, competing priorities and heavy and changing workload.
Knowledge of a variety of administrative operational activities such as event planning, basic fundraising processes, risk management planning, website design, accounting and payroll, and contracts and grants regulations and guidelines.
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
3-5 years Experience in an academic department or working with undergraduate students.
Special Conditions:
Occasional evening overtime to support undergraduate events and activities.
