Duties The United States Space Force (USSF) Space Systems Command at Vandenberg Space Force Base is searching for a Interdisciplinary Mental Health Provider (NH-0101-03, GS 12/13 equivalent). Description: Welcome to Vandenberg Space Force Base, the base is nestled in the central coast wine country one hour north of Santa Barbara. Vandenberg offers you the room to explore as the Space Force's largest base at 118k acres including, 46 miles of pristine pacific coastline. Have close encounters with base wildlife on miles of hiking and biking trails with opportunities to see some of 18 endangered species that make Vandenberg their home. The incumbent will serve as a Licensed Mental Health Provider (LMHP) supporting the Space Force's Guardian Resilience Team. As a critical member of this team, the incumbent will be a key pillar in implementing the Space Force's Holistic Health Approach aimed at building resiliency, enhancing human performance, and improving unit mission effectiveness. The primary focus of this position is enhanced mission execution, achieved by optimizing Guardian overall wellbeing and performance. The incumbent should be passionate about providing limited-scope counseling to Guardians and educating and training Guardians on the basic principles and skills needed for improved social and cognitive fitness.The ideal candidate should possess professional knowledge of clinical counseling practices, principles, theories, and administrative requirements to be able to apply them in a clinical or occupational setting and medical documentation. Professional knowledge of evidence-based treatments for a full range of psychiatric disorders to plan and provide treatment to patients. Knowledge of diagnostic issues related to psychiatric disorders IAW the most current version of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) of the American Psychiatric Association. Knowledge of military organizations and culture and the unique stressors upon workers in an operational military workplace. Knowledge of administration, scoring, and interpretation of select psychological and psycho-social screening measures to properly assess patient's needs. Understanding of behavioral risk management and the ability to engage appropriate protections as needed when the risk of harm to self or others is present. Ability to provide guidance and consultation services to medical professionals and military leaders and facilitate referrals to military or community-based human service agencies and resources (e.g., Protective Services, financial aid organizations). Ability to leverage subject matter expertise to create education and training opportunities that promote the holistic health of Guardians. Knowledge of social services delivery systems to ensure effective program management and communication. Proficiency in, at a minimum 1 (preferably 2) evidenced-base treatment modalities used for the treatment of trauma-related disorders such as Cognitive Processing Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Prolonged Exposure Therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing. Requirements Conditions of Employment U.S. Citizenship Required This position is on-site and eligible for situational telework, 2-4 days per pay period. Employee must reside within commuting distance of worksite. Work schedule and percentage will be determined by leadership, employee, and situation. PCS and Incentives are authorized. Employee must be able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret w/SCI clearance. Required to handle and safeguard sensitive and/or classified information in accordance with regulations to reduce potential compromise; must obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance for the position. This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to pre-employment drug testing as a condition of employment, and participation in random drug testing. May be required to travel by military or commercial aircraft in the performance of TDY assignments. Selective Placement Factors for Licensed Mental Health Professionals (e.g., Licensed Professional Counselors or Licensed Clinical Social Worker) Possess a current and must maintain, unrestricted license to practice LCSW or LPC independently, which includes diagnosis and treatment, in any one of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, or the U.S Virgin Islands. To meet MTF credentialing and privileging competency requirements, must have actively practiced in their discipline within the past two year as an independent LCSW or LPC adult clinical practice. As a condition of employment, the MH clinician IAW DHA and DAF guidelines must meet credential requirements and be granted full qualified privileges to preform independently and unsupervised. Government civilian providers must sustain all applicable credentialing requirements IAW local military treatment facility guidelines and be fully qualified to perform independently within the scope of their clinical practice. Must possess and maintain a certificate of completion of training for and ability to deliver an Evidence Based Treatment modality to treat Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Must possess and maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through American Heart Association or American Red Cross. Must complete Military Employee Health Program screening and immunization requirements IAW DoD and AF 44-108 directive through the military treatment facilities Public Health department.
