Job description

Department Summary:
The Physics & Astronomy Purchasing unit consists of two full time buyers and a purchasing manager. The unit is responsible for the department's procurement activity for faculty and staff purchases of goods and services up to $8.1 million in volume per year.

Position Summary:
The Physics & Astronomy Purchasing unit is looking for a motivated and qualified candidate to join our team! This is a full-time career position that will strongly collaborate with staff, students and faculty as well as central finance and purchasing partners.

Salary & Compensation:
UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Qualifications:
1. Working knowledge of University accounting and purchasing policies, procedures, forms and online systems. Ability to process a variety of forms to complete numerous transaction type. (Preferred)

2. General working knowledge of Departmental and University accounting and purchasing policies sufficient to advise faculty and staff on the proper application of these procedures. (Preferred)

3. Knowledge of purchasing practices sufficient to conduct Departmental purchasing functions. (Preferred)

4. Excellent interpersonal skills to interact with students, staff, faculty, researchers, central offices, and vendors (Required)

5. Ability to speak on a one-to-one basis, both in person and over the telephone, using appropriate vocabulary and grammar to obtain and clearly convey information, and explain complex policies and procedures. (Required)

6. Skill in writing concise, grammatically correct business correspondence. (Required)

7. Keyboard typing skills to prepare scientific and technical purchase orders, reports, memoranda, and correspondence with speed and accuracy. (Required)

8. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, staff and students, as well as with vendors. (Required)

9. Skill in systematically organizing material, and information to effectively accomplish duties and tasks. (Required)

10. Ability to solve problems independently and quickly. (Required)

11. Skill in performing a variety of duties simultaneously with frequent interruptions. (Required)

12. Skill in making appropriate job decisions following standard office policies. (Required)

Education, Licenses, Certifications, & Professional Affiliations:
Bachelor's Degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training. (Required)
