10680 DescriptionThe Assistant Teacher will assist in the supervision, education, and support of children with disabilities, birth-36 months of age, in a preschool/early intervention setting. The Assistant Teacher will work under the supervision of the director and lead Teacher(s) in the delivery of services to children with disabilities on an as-needed basis. Some specific responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to: assist in the daily preparation of the classroom and play yard activities, monitor for safety, assist in documenting and maintaining daily observations of children in all areas of development, prepare school bulletin boards, assist in the end-of-day clean-up activities, attend daily meetings, and assist with classroom upkeep and maintenance. This is a part-time, limited position that may convert to career. Salary Range: $21.24 - $32.94/Hourly QualificationsRequired: Minimum of 12 post-secondary semester or equivalent quarter units in early childhood education or child development. 12 months experience working with young children (day care/pre-preschool/preschool). Have fingerprint clearance on file with DSS Community Care Licensing. Knowledge of early childhood education or child development or related areas of special education, speech/language therapy, physical therapy, occupational therapy, psychology or nursing. Ability to work as a team member to determine a transdisciplinary approach needed for working with children with developmental disabilities. Written communication skills for preparing correspondence. Demonstrated good oral communication with a variety of social/economic and cultural backgrounds of children and families, and with professionals in related fields. Ability to support and physically handle children birth to 5 years of age with disabling conditions, using appropriate techniques. Ability to lift and carry a child up to 50 lbs. Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding clients or family members' status in accordance with HIPPA regulations. Preferred: Knowledge of early childhood special education or related areas of special education; speech/language therapy, physical therapy, occupational therapy, psychology or nursing. Knowledge of how disabling conditions might interfere with the developmental progression of children birth to 3 years of age. Skill in working with children with disabilities and their families. Written communication skills for preparing correspondence. Knowledge of computer/iPad use and its applications to the educational curriculum with young children.
