Job Description:
The HVAC Controls Design & Energy Data Specialist will support energy efficiency initiatives by assisting in the design, commissioning, and troubleshooting of HVAC control systems across multiple school sites. This role focuses on ensuring optimal energy use, identifying opportunities for energy conservation, and addressing maintenance and system improvements.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist with HVAC Controls Design and perform submittal reviews to ensure system accuracy and functionality.
Analyze utility data and energy usage to identify schools suitable for recommissioning and retro-commissioning projects.
Review Energy Management System (EMS) data, energy usage patterns, and alarms to pinpoint no-cost/low-cost energy conservation measures.
Collaborate in reviewing EMS data to identify preventive maintenance measures that can enhance system efficiency.
Conduct site visits to investigate as-built conditions and verify the accuracy of project designs.
Implement low-cost/no-cost solutions for the repair and optimization of EMS systems at school sites.
Troubleshoot and resolve basic mechanical, electrical, and controls issues related to HVAC systems.
Respond to basic warranty calls for HVAC systems, ensuring issues are promptly addressed.
Calibrate and maintain HVAC systems using basic electronic test equipment to ensure proper operation.
Assist in managing and overseeing in-house commissioning projects, ensuring timely and effective completion.
Perform other duties as assigned, supporting the overall maintenance and energy conservation efforts.
Requirements
Qualifications:
Minimum of three (3) years' professional experience in building controls or a related field
Understanding of computer networking principles, including configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting
Ability to wire, start up, and troubleshoot basic HVAC maintenance issues
Fundamental understanding of HVAC operations within a facility.
Knowledge of HVAC controls design and energy management systems.
Familiarity with energy conservation strategies and utility data analysis.
Basic troubleshooting skills in mechanical, electrical, and control systems.
Ability to use electronic test equipment for system calibration.
Experience with commissioning projects and preventative maintenance.
Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently
Graduation from a recognized college or university with a bachelor's or associate degree in engineering (mechanical, computer science, electrical, information technology).
OR
Two-year technical degree in HVAC, Electronics-related studies with additional 2 years of experience to compensate for education on a year-for-year basis.
This role is ideal for someone with a background in HVAC systems, energy management, or facilities maintenance, with a focus on optimizing system performance through both proactive and reactive measures.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with multiple controls manufacturers including Automated Logic, Carrier, Delta, Distech, Schneider Electric, or Trane.
Proven ability to debug installation issues during both static and dynamic start-up phases.
Experience supporting installation personnel and other contractors on project sites.
Extensive experience in performing or assisting in performance of commissioning of EMS.
